Nah, no worries as I was able to smoke the stick... shit happens. But I was just surprised because the small piece was super thick and solid, I could not break it after trying a bit. I'm just surprised the roller actually boxed these as the little stick was so obvious at the foot and then I found the other big stick upon further inspection of the foot!
inside the stick or inside the box? only time i've heard of something like this is from counterfiet cubans

Ever since Brooks posted a review awhile back (can't remember what cigar, not DE) of a huge stem/stick inside, I always look at the foot of a cigar before lighting to make sure there is no obvious stem. When I looked at this cigar, I couldn't believe what I was seeing and feeling.
Like I said, shit happens. This does not change my view one bit of DE and the quality of cigars they make.

I posted for 2 reasons... 1, just to share my experience. 2 and mainly, to give the idea to other BOTLs to simply look at your cigars before lighting up just in case there's some big stems that could give you a crappy smoking experience. I learned from Brooks and have wasted many of minutes looking at my cigars for stems before lighting and this is the first time it actually happened to me. I'm glad I have looked for stems for these past couple years because it would've really sucked to light this cigar up before pulling out the stems... just a learning experience for me and wanted to pass it along.
Of course he didn't post in order to get something...Never even thought that.
JD on the spot? LOL! The guy is too laid back for that, and regardless of what's posted; he always takes care of his customers.
I respect where you are coming from completely, though.

On the drive home from the B&M, I remembered what cigar Brooks reviewed where he pulled a monster stem. It was from someone most of us highly respect... My Father LE 2010 where Pepin and Jaime hand rolled them all! So again, shit happens and I don't consider it a reflection on the company at all. Jaime must've been tired from rolling all the cigars when he bunched that twig! LOL

Those are the larger veins of the tobacco leaf (some people call them "stems," but that's not really correct, actual tobacco stems are HUGE), not uncommon to find them in cigars (though I'll admit those are big). I've seen worse! It's my theory that the stronger the cigar is, the more you're likely to notice them (since I think the ligero veins are larger).
My main concern with big woody-veins is that they might restrict the draw--but if the draw is good, I don't care about them because I've yet to notice the "sticks" effecting the flavor.

Honestly, IMHO, Shit happens with a hand made product, and while it annoying to find one of those when you are trying to smoke, that vast majority of the time, they have no effect whatsoever on the actual taste of the cigar....
It is VERY rare that I find something that large in a cigar, and rarer still in a LP
