So with the VH thread, thought I'd see what you guys thought. I got a presale email from live nation when tix for the Van Halen tour were going to be for sale. So, for the VIP tickets, $995, $595 and $395. These sold out within a couple of days. My question, is there anyone you would consider paying this kind of money for? I just couldn't plop down even the $395 never mind the $595 or crazy $995. And I've been a fan of VH since before the first album. I just don't think they're even close to what they used to be and IMO, they should be charging less and not more than the average band. I guess if they can sell em they will! G1

My wife wants to see Madonna in KC... rumor has it tickets will be between $300 and $1000. No f'n way...
Hell, to see Ozzfest '99, I paid $55.... sat super close to the main stage, AND got to see the legendary Black Sabbath, along with Rob Zombie, Primus, Deftones, Static X.

Especially when we all know Dave has lost it. Prolly won't even get too far into the tour before all hell breaks loose and they break up again.
I saw an interview with Dave and he was wacked. Just don't see it lasting.
As for tickets, I've spent my fair share on outrageous prices and never agreed that they were worth it. Before or After.

Outrageous prices like these are just another reason I like to listen to and explore new bands. Very few artists IMO make anything close to their first few albums because they're just about stacking the dough. Don't get me wrong more power to them but I think there's a reason why people make their best music while sleeping on their mom's couch or living in a rat infested ten floor walk up in the ghetto.

If people will pay it then they will charge as much as possible. The generation that grew up with VH have worked decades now and a lot of them are very financially set. If people buy old cars for nestalgia they would pay great money to see their first concert again to bring back not just the music but the memories. Would I ever pay that? HECK NO! But as a promoter I would completely agree with the prices to be able to cash in on people.
EDC is 3 days and is $400 and you are getting the most amazing concert of your life. That or Cochella both deserve the high prices because you are getting what you paid for.

Just got back from the VH concert...Wife got free suite tix from work. Good show! Kool & the Gang was pretty tight...Diamond Dave's voice started giving out towards the end and he made a joke out of one of the Hagar tunes he sang.
Didn't realize this though....
When Dave had his hair and did the flamboyant things on stage, well that was Dave. Now that he's got short hair and wears a dazzling rhinestone & sequin suit...he just seems pretty gay.

I don't think I'd pay those prices for anyone, no.
But being a specialist at seeing other people's points of view, I can see why it might be worth it to some people.
I mean, when you were (insert younger age here) and went to concerts frequently, how much did you spend on them in, say, 2 years time? I'll bet it was $400 easy, counting all the expenses (including hotel for out-of-town concerts). Now, these days you don't get out as much because of kids or what not, so you are considering blowing your load for great seats to one awesome concert. I can see it.

Believe me....if the tickets weren't free, I wouldn't have gone. I used to go to $5.00 punk rock shows and usually got $1 off at the door if you brought a can of food. I bet after 5 years I still didn't hit the $300 range. I don'ty go to too many shows anymore because I don't think anyone is worth more that $40 a ticket. That's just me though.
