So as some may know I love almost everything AJ Fernandez creates. My favorites being the various Diesels and Man O War lines, they are actually the only type of cigars that I stock up on(ha though it is not hard since they are not hard to come by and are not expensive, perfect for a starter like me). WELL, I had been hearing through the CIGAR.COM newsletter about the upcoming Diesel Crucible:

"Diesel Crucible: A limited, one time run of about 10,000 cigars. We can’t reveal all of the secrets that make this cigar so rare, but one component is a very special filler leaf grown in Honduras. At the onset of the embargo, as tobacco growers and cigar makers fled Cuba, many came to Honduras in search of new land. Most initially settled in an area outside Copan, Honduras where they grew tobacco for several years due to the climate which they felt most rivaled their native Cuba. However, after several successful crops, disease and mold set in, thus rendering the land unusable, forcing growers into regions in other parts of Copan, Jamastrán and Talanga. Almost a decade ago, one particular grower returned to the region, planting various test crops with different seeds engineered to resist the diseases plaguing the tobaccos decades before. After years of failure, the first successful test crop was harvested in 2010 and the results were fantastic. The entire first crop from 2010 was purchased by AJ Fernandez and some was set aside just for Diesel Crucible. This tobacco is strong, robust and a great throwback tobacco from a bygone era that imparts a unique taste. Diesel Crucible will come in only one size, a large torpedo that’s complex and rich with competing flavors ranging from spice and earth to leather and nuts. Crucible takes Diesel to a whole new level."

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a release date for it or know anything else about this upcoming smoke. THANKS.

sounds cool! This is my first time hearing about them. Will they be uber-expensive like the Armada and Requonista?

I have not heard the price point, but with only 10,000 cigars I am suspicious that they will be...sadly. BUT, figure that as long as it isnt to crazy, I am going to give a go at it.

I really enjoy Diesel Unholy Cocktails. The Crucible sounds interesting. Other than a few posts regarding it's release this year, I haven't heard anything else.

I had a chance to meet AJF last month and I asked him about this cigar and he said it would be released in the spring. No exact date.
He also said that he is working on another cigar that has yet to be named that will be released like the SanLotano, mostly for B&M.

I smoked a few prototypes for Crucible over the summer, during the final blend tweaking, and from my notes, it is all yeasty bread, bitter dark chocolate, and burnt coffee beans. When I smoked them they were a little wet, from the table, so they had some sour notes. Haven't had one since July though, so hopefully time to dry out and settle will take care of that. I don't know all of the blend specifics, but the wrappers are gorgeous. It's a belicoso, maybe 5.5x52/54.

Hey Doc, thanks for posting. Indeed these babies have gotten even better with age. Will have to get more out to you from the aged batch. FYI to all the guys here on BOTL, these will hopefully start shipping in April. The cigars have been made and have been resting for some time so they should be great ROTT. Boxes will either be 10ct or 12ct. Waiting on confirmation of the the yield. Great smoke. Retail will be about $10. Very limited run as noted above.

Yes, and also at several retail stores to carry the diesel brand on a regular basis. They are limited, but it depends on how fast they sell out. The production was limited firmly as more simply cannot be made due to the availability of certain tobaccos in the blend.
