So last night around 7pm....I thought I had crazy bad gas pains....it progressed into the worst pain I have felt in some time.....I ended up in the ER....and found out I have kidney stones again....for the second time in my life. Just curious if any of you fine folk have had any experience with these horrible horrible things? Also does anyone else have any suggestions besides taking the drugs(they gave me some decent painkillers)?

Sorry for ya bro, but from my experience, I did a treatment with no drugs whatsoever...This may sound crazy but Coco-water + onions turned my stones into dust (or sand). You mix them in a mixer and drink it, YUP it tastes AWFUL but it worked. A nutritionist and doctor recommended me that, and worked like a charm.

Yup, coconut water + onions. I did the treatment for like 2 weeks if I remember correctly, maybe 3. But when I went to the doctor again, I had no stones.

I once thought I had a kidney stone and wish it was. Ended up in the ER to the ICU and ultimately the regular hospital for about a week with a lower left lung pulmonary embolism.

Started with a demerol drip and in the ICU I progressed to morphine drip, like a warm fuzzy blanket, heaven.

Soory to hear about that

I've heard that you want to drink acidic juices. Like Cranberry

But if that coconut water and onions drink works. I'd give that a try first. Even though it sounds awful.

Back when I was in high school I had a buddy that would drink upwards of 2 gallons of milk a day. One morning he gets up and can't pee. Hours go by still can't pee and now he's doubled over in pain. His mom takes him to the er and turns out he had a bunch of big kidney stones completely blocking him off. Had to get them smashed, then a catheter, and lots of antibiotics and Pain meds. Screw that stuff.

Well good news is that for the past 12 hrs it has been actually mellow......but in the past it seems like the pain goes away for a few days then comes back. So I am hopeful I passed them/it. I wish I had health insurance for the laser treatment. I will say this again....thank god for strong pain medication

Had them last summer. Feels like a hot knife in the gut, wonderful. My stones came on one night at 3 am, went to the hospital, waited a few hours there while they tried to figure out what the problem was, and finally must have passed them some time around 11ish. By the time I got out of the hospital, I was late for the golf tournament that was going on, but managed to meet up with my group by the 2nd hole.
Worst pain I have gone through, no doubt. I feel for ya man!

Sorry to hear about the stones, man! I used to get one about twice a year, and painfully had to pass them all (they were not large enough for surgery). My doctor said I have to drink a ton more water, and put me on a daily medication for my uric acid levels (apparently this acid was binding the calcifications together). Also, trying to give up soda. Microbrew is another story, don't know if that is out the window. Moderation is okay. I have not tried the onion and coconut water, hopefully I won't have to.

Try to take it easy on the pain meds, some of those can constipate you, which may cause more pain in your situation. Just drink a lot of water, and pass it soon. Once it's gone, you feel 100 times better. Good luck, brother!

I feel for you Brother! I went through this back in February. It was far worse then when my appendix ruptured at least that pain would subside a little bit fro the appendix but the stone did not. I had Lithotripsy for a 4x6mm stone passed bit and pieces for a couple weeks. I haven't drank soda in years I workout 3 days a week, I blame mine on heredity everyone of my Mothers brothers and sisters has had them. Get well and stick to the pain meds!

This made me cringe

I hope I never ever have to experience kidney stones. Any tips on avoiding them all together?
