How much would you pay for a liga no.9? Probably 15 at the most for maybe a corona double? The lounge in my town....yes they have a monopoly on indoor smoking but does that justify 10 a piece for papas or 23 for no. 9's? Sorry for the rant but just wanted to see what other guys experience/think.

I might do it once if it were a "business smoke" but that's too rich for the personal funds. I may be new to LP but not that crazy for them.

It's like that here. 9 or 10 for a papas. And 17 for 9 robusto. But, I'm in NY too an the taxes are crazy. That's why I, unfortunately, have to buy almost everything online. I contacted a B&M right before the little monsters came out, and they were going to be $112. MSRP was $75!! Oh well. At least I know.

That is pretty high. The place I go is right at $14, which isn't bad for a single at a B&M. But $23, that is ridiculous.

There's a heap of hype behind the liga privada line. I love their smokes, but in my opinion a lot of their stuff isn't worth what they're asking. As for the second hand market... Forget it. Again, this is only my opinion, and should be taken with a grain of salt. I definitely believe what JD and Saka do for the community is above and beyond just about every other 'personality' In the business though.

now, just to clarify, is this "lounge" primarily a B&M store? or is it a location for lounging, smoking and congregating, that happens to serve smokes? being in the booze business, this looks like the mark up a restaurant uses on wine (about double retail). people are going there to be served, and are not really expected to buy and leave, so the markup is based onwhat is consumed on premise. unless WA state taxation on tobacco just sucks that badly, which i am guessing is not the case based on your sticker shock.

.especially when I pay 100 a month for a locker. Idk oh well.

Holy crap... $100 a month?

I pay $250 a year for a locker and club membership... And that gets me a 15% discount in the store... Plus access to special club only events... And it's the nicest lounge in town (great seating and tables... Very nice amenities... 2x 60" televisions... Etc...)...

As someone who has to drive an hour and a half if I want a local I can smoke in, there are plenty of times, especially in the winter, that I would pay an extra $8 to smoke inside. Just be happy that you have the option should you choose.

There's a B&M in San Jose that charges $44 a tin of papas.. It's in a high rent district, but still! I think they wanted $20+ for house blends... I did buy a four kicks there because I couldn't find them local anywhere else to try a single.

Maybe you should check around with some other B&Ms in your state and see if they're all high or it's just this one. Then you should have your answer if they're gouging or not. Would I pay that? Probably not very often. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to smoke inside at a nice place...especially since the temp is only supposed to be in the 30's today and I could really go for a cigar.

I am curious too whether it is a B&M or just a lounge. There is a lounge near my work that is $125 a month and you get a locker. They are not a cigar shop, but they sell cigars at a 30-40% mark up, this is because they buy their cigars from a shop and resell. Most members I imagine have their own cigars in their locker, but if you need one the option is there to buy one at a markup.

All of the "cigar bars and resturants" are the same around here Craig. They buy their sticks from shops for 10% discount so they do not have to deal with distributors (plus they just don't do the volume to be worth a distributor). They then add 25-30% on top for their profit...and they sell due to average non botl showing up without cigars in hand.

Luckily my local B&M doesn't do crazy mark up prices. But in NY state we get raped with tobacco taxes. Doesn't really bother me to much though since ill pay the extra change to support the shop

Nate, I once paid $19 for a No.9 Beli, but it's a really swank lounge B&M with indoor smoking, so i enjoyed the experience. I guess it depends on the ownership?

At the same token, in Texas last week I saw a sealed box of Papas Fritas for $230 in a small tobacco shop. I thought that was a bit ridiculous!

Thankfully I've learned to shop around...

There is a fine line IMO between fair mark up and screwing potential big spending customers. I do not mind in the least bit to spend a few bucks extra on a stick that I know I can get cheaper. We are paying for the right to smoke indoors with couches and tv's and yadda yadda. However when I see something like a $12 stick being sold for $19 let's say, I will just purchase online. It's a fine line for the b&m and the consumer, we need them to regulate the prices of online cigars, and they need us or they have no business.
