Aside from working in this industry, I also have a love of music. When I say that, I mean all types, from opera and classical, to jazz and blues, to rock, and even some rap. I have been playing music for around 17 years now. One thing I can never seem to get is what music would go good with a cigar. I know cigars to have while reading, writing, working, or watching a movie. But not when listening to a great album, say Abbey Road.

Any ideas or suggestions? Sadly, smoking a cigar and playing guitar are not easily done, or I would do that.

It's been a long time since I've sat down an listened to Abbey Road from start to finish. But my first thought when I read your post was a Padron Anniversary 1964. If it were me I'd start there and adjust accordingly.

Edit: corrected horrible spelling and grammatical errors thanks to my damn phone

Sitting out on the deck on a lazy summer day, I like a good mix of old 60s and 70s Motown and Philly to set the mood to "chill". Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, O'Jays, Temptations, Spinners, Otis Redding, Supremes, Jackson 5, Al Green, Four Tops, and on and on.

I'm like you I love music as a whole ....i like to feel the expression of the artist which translates to good music for me in any genre. For smoking tho I usually listen to reggae, jazz, or salsa meringue and 70s 80s rand b. . Those match my mood when smoking. Conversely I love rap and metal/rock as well but I rarely listen to either while I'm smoking.

I've seen this discussion several times on several forums, but I don't think it works like that.

For example, we can all talk about how a peaty Scotch might complement the fruitiness is a particular cigar, but music is a completely different animal. I think it completely depends on your musical tastes and mood at the time to pick the perfect accompaniment to your cigar smoking experience.

Yup that's what I was saying. It all depends on my mood and not the stick. Its just like having good company while having a great smoke, it only makes it better.

I generally want to listen to something relaxing and "fun" when smoking... Ill usually fire up pandora.. and have it run through the Jimmy Buffett channel.. or something like that..

I dont care if its got a country twist (Zac Brown Band), oldies sound (Smokey Robinson), folk, blues, jazz, etc.. just give me something a little bit on the mellow side.. and Im all good..

death metal, punk, ska, and gangster rap dont mix with cigars well for me... although I have been known to listen to all of that at one time or another :)

For me depends on the time of day. Vinyl always seems to compliment cigars and my last couple were Wish you were here(Floyd) and Black Diamond by the Rippingtons. G1

I like what Icehog said. I think I might go that route.

Music is a different type of thing when putting it with a cigar, but it always bothered me that I could never nail it down. I mean, they have music playing in some shops, but in MN, while cold, Latin music just seems a little off. At least I am not looking at comedy albums. If I put on Carlin and smoke I would die from inhaling due to laughter.

Always works for me, Josh. I listen to hard rock at the gym, all types of music on the go, but the Motown just seems to fit my cigar mode.

On the patio I hook up to Pandora One with headphones and my netbook. Like the op, I enjoy most types of music. Pandora is great because they choose the song for you, so variety is never an issue. If you get sick of the genre, just switch stations. btw, I have found that The Doors music goes great with maduros :)
