Evenin' gents:

Been reading the forums for a few days now and thought I'd take the time to post and introduce myself.

I currently work for the fire department and am coming up on my 9 yr anniversary of service. I've been a medic for 8 yrs. However, I'll be resigning in a month to pursue my medical doctorate (gonna be one tough goodbye). I'll be heading back to ODU to get my prerequisites and apply to med school. My lovely wife is a cardio echocardiographer and has graciously decided to support me in this venture. I have a wonderful 3 yo step son and we're currently expecting a son in December. Break out the cigars!

I've been enjoying cigars with my father for about two years now but starting doing my own research this yr and really ran with it, discovering what I like and also buying a second 200-ct humidor and stocking up (gotta love those sampler packs). I started with a lot of mild cigars but I really seem to be enjoying the more fuller ones now. Since the wife and I are taking about a $57K/yr income cut next month, I keep a keen eye out for sales.

Also, I was hired as an ED Scribe earlier this year so I might use a lot of abbreviations or acronyms in my posts. You'll have to forgive me as my new job requires me to type very fast as the physician is dictating his exam findings to me and I have to shorthand a lot of stuff.

Anyway, I look forward to forging some friendships here in the BoTL and enjoying this new hobby w/ you all. Let me know if you have any questions of me!

Cheers,

Dr. J.

Welcome from
North Dakota.
Hardest thing I ever did was walk away from the Fire Service after 10+ years. Those guys are like brothers to me.

It's definitely been the hardest decision I've ever had to make. But, this one makes for a better future for my family. That doesn't make it a whole lot easier though.

I was lucky and caught some PDR Oscuros on sale at about $30 for 20 sticks ($120 MSRP). I was surprised at just how good they were. I also landed on some Tarano 90s that were surprisingly filling. I have really enjoyed the PDR 1878 capa oscuras but I call them my "road flares" b/c they put off so much frickin' smoke! I had a Warlock the other day that was kind of a tease because, while delicious and fulfilling with an earthy and leathery tone, the draw was so firm it was like eating chunky soup through a straw, probably b/c it was ridiculously big. I've got a Gloria R in my humidor right now that I'm letting rest. She makes my mouth water every time I see her. I've got a tubing trip coming up that might be just the right fit for here. Gonna test my Xikar travel case for waterproofing this week. I'm not taking any chances w/ my babies. lol

How about you? I always love to try new things and hear about other peoples' preferences.

Welcome man, any chance you have a blue police booth?

I have yet to catch that show, but I have a friend who won't stop talking about it. What season should I start with? I saw 7 on my Netflix the other night but never got around to watching it. I watched the pilot last year and, while the girl was smoking hot, the plot was weird and there were these mannequins chasing her.

Thank you, sir. Encouragement is always helpful. "Plunge" is definitely the right word!

Yeah, the pilot from 2005 starts a little slow but after that first season it gets good. So I would try to watch from 2005 on but you may have to start from 2006. :)
