MC Syrian Super Balkan in a Nording F5 - these pipes are so cheap and smoke so well I think I'll grab a couple more and dedicate them to certain blends. Anyone currently doing this or is it not really worth the time/$$$?
depends in how picky you are. having the clarity of one blend only in one bowl is a good thing, but for my needs and palate i usually dedicate to either english or virginia and be done with it. from what i have seen, dedicate a pipe to a blend only if that blend is a must have for you: you NEED escudo in your life, or penzance, or carter hall, whatever it is, and have decided you WILL not run out, then it might be the time it gets it's own briar.

Good advice - thank you. I NEED Escudo, Nightcap, Cumberland, FMC etc. but an not sufficiently stocked to say I will never run out of anything by Esoterica. :)

Burning some well dried McClelland Beacon Extra in my Nording Billiard while watching Steelers/Bungles tonight.
With flakes I've always wondered what's the better approach: dry then rub out or rub out then let dry? If I dry first it won't really dry completely and if I rub first I get a bunch of sharp crispy little baccy bits that won't pack neatly into a pipe.

Never really thought about that. I always rub out first then dry. Seems to work good for me

burned through some OGS in my BotL nording and some saseini in my aldo valenti yesterday while giving a little pipe tutorial to a buddy.

that nording is fast becoming my favorite smoker, and it is not even broken in yet! just amazing. o)

You make a valid point though because it is sometimes tough to properly pack a bowl when the tobacco is too crispy. Small trade off when it lights, burns & tastes much better than straight out of the tin though! ;)
