I ordered a single from the Corona cigar company so I could taste the "Phenomenon" that is Liga Privada, but instead of placing on backorder they shipped two additional sticks that were in my order at no charge. Got love that!

I've purchased / been back ordered more than once from sites unmentioned so I think it's pretty common due to the rarity of unicos, but was notified pretty quickly

I guess I got lucky on my Rat order. The vendor I used must have updated stock as orders came in. I made the purchase and fully expected the backordered email the next day, but instead got a shipment notification. Really luck of the draw on these Unicos.

my limited experience was so bad with Thompson's that I won't use them any more. The worst was I received a shipment from them that full of cigar beetles and holes that they refused to replace or refund. You can say what you want about JR or Holt's but they know their current stock or when they will be available.

it would be nice if Amazon started selling cigars - they know they exact number of each item they have in stock up to the minute.

Lets not tell tales here, there was a price increase at the end of the trade show and it came out to about 5% across the board (total increase, some higher, some lower), some lines like MUWAT and Herrera Esteli did not change and I think the biggest hike on Liga was around 50-60 cents for the DC.

Lets not be too dramatic unless the facts are known, you'll upset all the Drewpies. ;)[/QUOTE]

Yup, taxes are what kill prices all around. upping MSRP by 50 cents may add another $1 or more depending on state taxes which'll be noticeable to some more than others. Drewpies LOL. G1

I honestly still don't think that would work. They would need there inventory updates to be to the second. Any time Unicos are up anywhere there's about a 10 minute window to grab them. That's a lot of people shopping at once. While not as many people might get out of stock/backorder notifications with a better system, I think at least some people would be doomed to get it either way.

I would love that list as well...seems like in order to score one must call these places everyday
Even then, I think you have to get lucky. It's still calling at the right time of day when an order might come in and talking to the right person. When the UF-13 came out even the big stores had employees with absolutely no idea what a Unico was. I called Corona and a chick answered who didn't even know what Liga Privada was...and these people take phone orders? Fortunately, after calling Corona about a millions times one of the guys who was a manager took pity on me for calling so many times and took my information and said he would call when more came in. I thought at the time that perhaps he just wanted me to stop calling everyday and thought the odds were slim of this actually come through, but sure enough in about month he gave me a rang and told me they were available. So maybe if you bug somebody enough they'll eventually cave and thats the way to get Unicos. Worth a try for some I suppose.

There's too much tech for there not to be a way. How bout ticket sales for concerts? They have to update to the second to not double book seats there's got to be a way to update quantities that fast. There should be a number allocated specifically for the net so that when that number is sold it shows as sold out. Not the net the phone orders and walk ins pulling from the same pool.

We have real time inventory. It's really a simple thing to have and a must in this day and age. Some places will allow an oversell just to capture customer info.

EGARS.com is the worst as they will show nearly all available and even confirmed shipping then when no package came and I called I am told "sorry" it is out of stock. No email or anything advising that it is out of stock. The customer service rep was an idiot with no real answer and a "tough crap customer" attitude. I even gave them a second chance and almost the exact same experience.

This!

Not only is it a must in this day and age.. frankly its not hard to do.. not expensive to do.. etc.. there are plenty of off the shelf technology packages that are reasonably priced and reasonably easy to set up and maintain and track inventory against sales..

Several of them are specifically designed for small, retail businesses... (tradepoint.. among others..)..
