one of my college roommates is getting hitched at sea next spring. I was looking at the information packet that I received in the mail which pointed me to a booking website for our block. unless I trick some broad between now and mid-april into committing an entire week to attend the wedding with me, I'll be floating solo. I want to book a balcony suite. let's just say the room I want is $1,000 for the trip. so here are my questions:

- the cruise line states that suites have two twin beds that can be pushed/turned into a queen bed, thus they are counting on having 2 passengers per suite. if I wanted to stay in a suite by myself will I be charged twice (in this example $2,000). or are they like hotel rooms where you are charged a room fee regardless if you have 1 or 2 guests in the room?

- in the event that the listed price is per passenger and I chose not to double up on it, will they stick a pot luck roommate in there with me?

I've never had to pay for one as I've gone with my family in the past.

I have never heard of them sticking someone else in there with ya. That would be kind of creepy. What if they stick Rex from San Fran in there? Better steal a cork from a bottle of wine and sleep with it.

Then again, they could put an Ingrid from Sweden in there too. Luck of the draw I guess.

They won't put a roommate in there with you. I believe you are charged per person. If you want the suite then you better book it.

Don't listen to us in this case, call the cruise line or travel agent now to get the scoop.

My thinking logic, rooms on ships probably be based on minimum double occupancy (ie 2+ people per room). You may have to pay some amount more, maybe not the full $1000 price as the example they would not need to feed/entertain/clean up after two people if only one in the room, but maybe another $500 to offset there loss of income with only that one person. I could not see any circumstance them adding another single person to your room either way due to todays liabilities and issues too numerous to think of.

yeah, I got it. I emailed the agent in charge of setting this trip up for my friends. we'll see what he/she -- the name is too ambigious: brook -- says.

well fuck. the agent wrote me back. I have to pay double if I want a room to myself, otherwise they'll stick another passenger within the wedding invitees with me.

just another way that society sticks it to singletons.

That sucks. I guess there is a group rate and the group has X amount of rooms for X amount of passengers
