Tesa Cigars Tasters Package (Derailed Edition)

So one of my favorite boutiques is doing a new box special that I thought was pretty awesome. They are selling a box with 10 puritos of the leaves that are used in their cigars and then a sample pack with all the cigars that use that leaf. I think its a fantastic idea and just thought I'd share. They are supposedly starting at the $119 price range.

I will hopefully be snagging these and learning what each individual leaf contributes to the cigar. What do you guys think; good idea for a boutique brand?

I'm somewhat split on this. I think it would be A LOT of fun. At the same time, I'm not sure I want to spend my precious smoking time on one (or more) puritos.

If they were cheaper, I'd be 100% behind it. But that's a lot of money for only a handful of actual cigars.

Very true. Would be fun to arrive at a HERF with this thing.

That said, I may have to order some 5ers from them. Their Shaman, Cab. 312, and Reserva 464 lines sound delicious.

I am so lost...How many cigars total, and they are all made with the same leaf? How is this any different than any other sampler? (I don't think my coffee worked this morning, sorry)

There is 10 puritos which are made up of individual leaves and a six cigar sampler that is made of the same leaves that are used in the puritos. So 16 in all. I don't think the puritos would be great just let's you know where the individual flavors come from.

I actually like this idea....those of us who so smoke a lot of cigars pretty much are spoiled by the same ole same ole but to have something that stretches our taste buds by combining leaves to get a special profile...16 cigars total for that price is actually pretty good...people could do a split even with that number....5 of the Puros and 3 of the Samples...8 for $60????

Would be interesting though. Would just really suck smoking a purito or two, realizing a purito is terrible, and still having 8 left to "research" through. Btw I have no idea if a purito is any good or not. In my experience a "triple Maduro" or "triple" anything doesn't seem to work for me. See cao mx2, lx2, camacho triple Maduro etc.

Just my two cents on this, I'm all over it. For one the actual six blended cigars in the sampler are all awesome, tried them all and completely satisfied. Two I think as a student of the leaf smoking the particular tobaccos in their pure form would be an awesome experience. From what I know know they all come with descriptions of each leaf. I'll be getting this one to enjoy the experience and two to support a local guy Chris Kelly, owner/blender of Tesa Cigars who is some top notch people.

Alex, I'd personally recommend the Reserva Real 650 and 312 Robusto, spectacular cigars!

This is sort of like what I rolled for rev. He has a Six Shooter cigar that contains 6 small cigars, each rolled purely from a different leaf than the others. All of those leaves combined are in the BFC (Big F***ing Cigar) that he has also.

Cool idea in my opinion.

I have never smoked a purito but I believe it's just basically one rolled leaf. I think its what they use in the testing process to make a cigar and find out the floors they want. I don't even believe it has a wrapper.

The 312 is nice...Need to re-visit after some more down time. Customer service is excellent.

This is not entirely new and is part of the method of cigar blending. At last year's BOTL Drew Estate's Cigar Safari Nicholas gave us one of each leaf (tabaquiado) to smoke that comprised of the Undercrown.

Good question - while I have still yet to smoke the tabaquiados for the Undercrown (want to put in the proper time to do a review in the future) I have done similar when it comes to blending our personal cigars during the Cigar Safari.
The leaves are indeed smokeable but of course you have to be cognizant that its only a single leaf and take very light draws. But it's just one component after smelling the leaf raw, lightning for combustibility and aroma and then finally flavor.

I would definitely say educational before enjoyable - kind of like asking would you rather eat a cup of sugar vs. a batch of a dozen fresh made cookies.
