My other thought that, since Chicago gets cold and smoking outside from December through March is not practical, that I'll use that period to buy far more than I smoke and then I'll have a larger supply in the Spring.
This is what's going on with me. I've got three tupidors and a desk humi stocked full. Since it's so cold I'm not getting out to to smoke as much I just keep having to buy more Tupperware.

And then. Thanks to botl... When I go to get bomb Ingredients I have to grab a lil something for me too.

I have two local places I can go in the winter - one is the Bull and Bear (went there for the first time the other night and loved it) and then there is a bar that has a "fireside smoking lounge". The on issue with the Bull and Bear is that I have to buy one of their sticks to smoke in there. I don't know if that is *their* rule, but it is mine. It's a store and, as such, they are there to generate an income and I'd be a total douchebag for even asking if I can smoke my own in there. Fortunately, their prices are really good and they have an amazing selection.

The bar I can certainly take my own sticks in and I have to order a drink (a hardship, I know) but if it's a night where a Pay Per View fight or other event is on, there's a $10 or $15 cover.

So, those outings are limited and I'll wait for those rare warm days until the Spring

Most b&m's I've ever been in don't mind if you smoke one of your own, as long as you make a purchase. I use to bring my own sticks all the time, but would purchase 2-3 on the way out the door.

Never hurts to ask.

That makes sense. I'll ask after I've been a few times. I just never want to be "that guy", ya know?

After reading a lot of posts in the different forums and threads, I noticed people mentioning they (or others) were "getting low". That got me think about how few sticks someone needs to have in the humidor to be considered "getting low". Then it occurred to me that factors such as frequency of smoking, budget and personal finances will make the answer different for everyone and any particular count is meaningless.

But then I had an idea that removes anyone's smoking frequency out of the equation: measure by the number of days/weeks/months/years. So, if you only smoke once a month and have only 12 sticks in your humidor, you're probably not really running low because you have a year's worth of cigars. I only have 26 cigars in my humidor but since I only smoke once a week right now, that's 6 months worth (probably less if I assume 2 or 3 will be unsuitable to be smoked for any number of reasons), so I don't feel I am running low.

So here is my question: At what point do the different brothers here feel that their humidor is running low? When you have just a few days worth? A month? And what kind of supply do you normally keep on hand?

P.S. it's possible that I may use some of the answers here to help justify my buying habits to my wonderful wife who is starting to raise eyebrows with each purchase.
In my situation, it was only early on into cigars that I felt I was "getting low" on my supply. It may take months or even years to build a sizable collection for smoking depending on your spending/trading. It's also subjective. I may think that a full 150 count humidor is plenty to last me for 5-6 months without buying more, whereas another brother may see that as running low, and has an urge to buy more and to not ever go below 150 cigars. The thing with me is that I am always looking to try the next thing from my favorite brands, so I'm frequently buying or trading and almost never "run low" on cigars these days.

I had a similar conversation a while back with my friend Sean (sean) about our cigar stashes, and we could calculate how long our supply would last if we suddenly stopped buying cigars, like during the zombie apocalypse or something. The results shocked me, and I thought that I may have a problem. Then I thought, no I don't. lol.

Just keep fiscal responsibility in mind. Even I need reminders now and then about my cigar priorities. If you think you are "running low", just buy a 5 pack or two of something you like or wanted to try, and see how long they last.

Hope this perspective helps.

It helps, thanks!

And I love your priorities: "if there is a zombie apocolypse, will I have enough cigars?" HA! I feel the same way about cigars, bourbon, and spare camera batteries and memory cards. I'll enjoy myself immensely while photographing the zombies.

I'm ready!

I have about 350-400 cigars and smoke probably 5 a week during warmer months and 2-3 during colder months. I also give away a couple a month to friends. I feel like I'm running low when my go to regulars are below about 15-20 cigars, then I buy a couple of 5 packs to replenish.

Many of the cigars in my humi were bought for aging. If I have just a few sticks left of my go-to cigars, then I guess I would say that I am running low on those, but not running low on the gars that are hibernating.

I honestly could never say I'm running low since I smoke <1 a week in winter and 1-2 a week in the summer. I have no idea how many I have, but because I am still a noob, most are ROTT had are resting a bit, some are early purchases that I will never smoke again and will give to non-smokers and the remainder are just waiting there turn for me to sample them.

Well, it all depends for me. Since I smoke a lot of ACID cigars, if I have only 5-6 of them I feel I am low. However, if I only have a single of a certain cigar that I have never smoked before or is too expensive for me to smoke regularly, I don't feel like I'm low. Idfk, hard to explain. I guess it depends on which sticks I'm low on :p

However, I would say if I have less than 30-40 sticks I'm running very, very low.

I seem to be like many others here in that I have go to sticks and sticks to age ... and aged sticks to smoke. If I find I have less than a "comfortable level" of my go to smokes or am running low on aged ones I really like then I get a little worried. I travel frequently for work so sometimes I think I'm low and place some orders only to find I now have more to rest.

What I've learned from this is that Rob is running low .... But for me I consider myself running low when I have 100 sticks left, that's about half my humi and the sticks start to look lonely and beg for friends!

Guys I'm getting really really low.
Fixed it for ya there skully
Josh, I appreciate what you're trying to do. But although my humidor is near empty, I am so afraid of bombs that I have to pretend it's full. My mailbox has been repaired now and I don't want to have to fix it again.
Josh, we should help the guy.
I really think we should. Good thing I have his address.
