It's generally agreed that a cab would be preferable (nothing but tobacco and spanish cedar, no paper), but people have been storing their cigars in the dress boxes since the invention of dress boxes. I don't know how much better a cigar aged for the same amount of time would be in a cab vs a dress box, but it makes sense to me that the cab would be better.

All that being said, I've had a few cigars aged for 5-7 yrs in dress boxes that were fantastic.

Some feel the cab method enhances the ageing process.I have been keeping my sticks in cabs since the 80s.

Works well for me,most of my cabs are 20 years or older,so they are seasoned and mellow.

Easier to keep even moisture in a cab......no chance of a "paper" taste getting in a cigar.

Sometimes I will add a handfull of newer sticks to an older cab,mix them around to freshen the whole bunch.......

I don't mean to ask a question slightly off topic, but I've been told that the RASS smoke well at most ages, is this the case? I have experienced the fact that others do not.

actually i think master cases of 30 or 40 boxes would be preferable. maybe just me though... o)

and, as far as how they perform at differing ages, paul, it is personal preference at the end of the day, but recent production has been superlative out of the gate. any CC will show better with time (by and large), but a lot of guys here just can't keep their mitts off them long enough. i am looking at you, kev!

I haven't tasted a RASS I didn't like. I actually picked up an HQ box made in my son's birth month and year so I can really see what age does to them over the next 20 or so years. My wife gives me a look every time I say it, but my son's first cigar is going to be an 18 year old RASS... That I will know about anyways... I was a sneaky bastage as a kid so I'm preparing for the worst... Lol
