So I have a couple friends that see me smokin and are curious to try. They asked me to get them a stick that I would recommend and when they are ready, they will give it a shot.

My question is, What is a good stick to offer a 1st timer that would be smooth and memorable?

I was thinking an L40 would be a good route. Its smaller ring size would not make it overwhelming and its full of flavor. Thoughts?

I agree with ChefBoyRG54 - a Fuente Hemingway Short Story would be a nice intro stick. Make sure they've got a nice meal in them and a drink in their hand, too.

I've always thought the Flor de Las Antillas by My Father is a great smooth jump off point. Not a typical Pepin pepper bomb, at least for me.

True, Liga might be a bit much but on the other hand the flavors are great.

Awesome recommendation! Keep em coming.

CAO Gold Corona. That's the cigar that got me hooked. Out grew it quickly, but it's creamy, mild, smokes a lot. Connecticut shade is the way to go, IMO. Or, if you keep Habanos, the HdM Epicure 2. Fantastic smoke for beginners.

+1 to the Perdomo Champagne and the Fuente Hemingway, as well. They're not overpowering, and easy to wrap your head around.

agree with the hemingway line, but how I really got into cigars was actually the infused route with acid blondies and kubas I quickly moved up but it was a great intro into this beautiful hobby

I'd throw an Oliva V Melanio Robusto or PC into the discussion but some of the aforementioned sticks are very solid recommendations. If you want to have more than one I'd recommend a Tat PCR as an affordable, good and short second stick to cap off the night.

+1 perdomo champagne and fuente hemingway

padron x000 or a El Triunfador no. 5 should work. Tough because taste is subjective Just get something in the light to medium range but nothing too high end remember they may not like it and it be a shame to see a L40 tossed a 1/4 of the way in.

Cyb lance or tabak (infused) ci copper label is very good too!
+1... I've found most anything with flavor we would all enjoy has been too strong for a first timer. I've taken to hanging out blondie's and CI copper to fresh noobs. Guys that don't smoke regularly, I like giving out the Oliva G or Conn, as well as the RyJ house of Capulet.

Don't give them Liga's. I'd recommend a Chateau Fuente, an 858 Natural or Padron X000's. At least that's what got me hooked.

Also, the Asylum 13 6×80

KIDDING!!!

Actually, I wanted to jump back in quickly and say "kudos" to you for wanting to make sure that their first experience was a good one. That's being a great friend. My first experience several years ago was by a buddy of mine handing me something that was cheap and strong. Didn't tell me how to smoke it (I tried to inhale it), etc. Didn't try another cigar for about 5 years after that.

Had the same thing happen about 7 years ago and it wasn't until last year when someone 1) showed me how to properly smoke a cigar and 2) gave me a cigar appropriate for my (lack of) experience and palette that I really enjoyed it and got into it. Over 12 years wasted of not smoking cigars because I got bad advice and guidance.

So, seriously, great job on making sure they enjoy their first cigar.
