LA is a big tv market, but they don't watch hockey. Game 5 of the WCF in LA had a 3.0 market share... in Chicago it was a 16. I believe TMZ episodes has a larger market share there. Anyone else catch Qucik tossing his water bottle to delay that final faceoff after the icing? Good team move. But dick move in my world. They deserve the finals... great series by the Kings. But damn. DAMN!

The difference between the LA and say Chicago and NY markets is that LA is not a hockey town. Yes, we've had hockey for years, but it has never caught on with everyone, unlike Baseball, basketball or if we had a football team. It's much like the United States for e most part is not big on Soccer. Chicago is home to some of the most diehard fans. But the numbers will grow with the Kings making the Cup. Main reason is now everyone will be a Kings fan. Yep band wagoners,

But doesn't matter what market this year is in, it's still the Kings versus the Rangers, trust me the NHL will be very happy with the amount of money they rake in from the sales of merchandise, ads on TV and the increased ticket prices for the Cup. Go Kings Go

Agreed on much of what you said, Bill, but not about the NHL being happy. Their revenues would be MUCH higher if it were Rangers V. Blackhawks,.

Makes me wonder which city (American) has the largest following of hockey? I think Original 6 teams would generally be the front runners, but who knows!

I disagree with this... You are correct about their revenue being higher, but only in the short term. Like Bill said, the bandwagoneers that have been "kings fans all muh life!!" are what they are after. The revenue from that will be much greater than any "legacy" cities.

That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

I definitely understand about LA. I'm not sure i'd be as big a hockey fan if i couldn't play pond in the winter growing up. But how can there be any bandwagoners this year? 3 straight WCF finals... a cup just 2 years ago. Shouldn't they they all still be on the wagon? It's a hell of a wagon.

On the other topic, wouldn't ad space be at more a premium for an audience of two markets in the 20's ... rather than one team in the 20's and one in the 5's? Irrelevant as it might be, I think the NHL and NBC would be happier with Chicago and NY. NBC definitely didn't want Montreal, because then they lose local to CBC, no? Honest question.. which brings in more revenue... tv or merch?

It should be a great finals. I just may be too bitter to watch any of it.

We will have to agree to disagree. I don't think what will be spent by bandwagoners in L.A. will be even close to what longtiome Hawks fans spend every year. Hope we can disagree and still be friends.

TV brings more $$$....but I'm interested to see the TV numbers for the Finals.... Bet Chicago doesn't drop that much...LA will bump a bit.

Honest question, do you think the NHL fans in Chicago will turn off the TV and not watch the SCF? Flip side, what happens to those television sets in the LA market if they would have lost?

Fair point EJ...I'm thinking if LA lost no one in LA would be watching. Even thou Chicago lost, the hardcore hockey fans should still be watching.

True fans of hockey in general will watch... Others may be loyal fans of the team, but might lose interest after their team is out.

Most definitely. We're adults here, and it's not your fault you're a poopoo-head (learned that from my 4yo) so :p
