Do box pressed cigars look weird to you?

Pete Johnson has said that a box press can change the cigar. I believe he stated this with the CQ1. Comparing it to the Little Boris. Correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

I like the box pressed a lot, they do underfill some of them, but I really like what it does for the draw on the cigars. Maybe I am imagining things, but it's just what I've noticed personally. Majority of the cigars I have in my humidors have at least a slight press to them. Not all but a lot of them. It comes down to personal preference. I do not find them "weird".

I used to think box pressed were odd looking and didn't quite feel right smoking, but now I'm the opposite. I'm kind of drawn to them when I'm at my B&M.

I love the box press, its very elegant to hold. However, when its so extreme that the cigar has creases it gives it an unnatural look. Almost machine-made. Padrons have a nice natural looking box press.

I just got some El Triunfadors and they have the creases. Very sharp edges. Its been a while since Ive smoked these but I remember at one time they had a more rounded and subtle shape.

A more elegant press from Flor de las Antillas, same factory.

You are absolutely right, to allow for the box press they typically use less tobacco than they would for a round cigar. I like what the box press does for the draw as well, but if it is just a bit too underfilled the burn line can be all over the place.

I'm a big fan of box pressed cigars. They feel good in my hand, fit into my mouth better and wont roll off the table if I happen to be without an ashtray or my cigar brake.

That being said, I had my first Norteno last week and it did kind of freak me out. It was so flat it almost felt like I was smoking a tongue depressor.

Some look like chocolate cigars. Some are barely noticeable.
I understand from the interwebs that box pressing is supposed to reduce air pockets within the tobacco and help with the burn. Regardless, I find it impressive. And sometimes weird.

No box pressed can be called dog rockets, unless you have a square dog.

never cared for box pressed. they don't feel natural. uncomfortable to hold. i'm used to turning a cigar around while smoking to watch the burn progress. not easily done with bp. i had a padron at the factory that hadn't yet been pressed and enjoyed it immensely. guess it's all personal preference. that's mine
