Homebrewing is another big hobby of mine and yesterday was a Brewday. Had the pleasure of enjoying a "hot scotchy" and an Undercrown Gran Toro. A hot scotchy is a drink made from the sweet mash when you are making wort (the pre-fermented beer). It is really sweet and has a grainy/bready flavor. The other half the glass is scotch, in this case Glenmorangie 18 LaSanta (aged in sherry casks). The whole experience was outstanding on a cold German day.image.jpg

I tend to prefer a generic light beer, usually Natty Light. I enjoy drinking beer, but I don't like to get drunk - so a weak beer like Natty allows me to have a few drinks with my cigar, without affecting my ability to think straight or function the next day.

Well it was in a plastic bottle, brown in color, I believe it was 16oz and it was made by A&W. :)

Other than that it is a great pairing with cigars in my opinion.

Since now I am trying to spot those ever elusive flavor complexities in my "gars", I tend to be drinking a Perrier or other carbonated waters. When I do let my hair down, I prefer a Malbec or Corona. Soon maybe a Bourbon (once I can stand the taste of it LOL)

I have a hard time with the whole "acquired tastes" thing - if you try a drink you don't like, you should drink more of it???
Well I enjoy beer and wine, but when I first tried them, both left me with the sour puss face. After sometime I started to really appreciate the taste and today I drink both like water. The same applies to scotch/whiskey/bourbon; I whiskey face no matter how good the quality (and I'm talking about Jonnie Walker Blue Label). I am hoping it will be a similar learning curve like it was with beer and red wine.

Fair enough, and well said... and, I suppose that my taste in cigars was acquired over time...
Have you tried Glenfiddich 12 year? I'm not much of a liquor guy, but I've found it to be a good intro to trying other single malt Scotches...

Thank you. No never tried it. I'm exposing myself to whiskey/scotch/bourbon tastings before I commit to buying a bottle, I made the mistake of buying a bottle of Avion Tequila ($70) thinking I would love it. (after seeing it advertised as "smooth" on Entourage) Lets just say that after taking a shot with my friends, the only word we could think of was "Paint thinner" LOL. I ended up giving it away to a friend on his birthday.

My experiences with tequila, many years ago, were enough for me to conclude that it doesn't matter how much you spend on it, as the end result is always the same... :(
