Tonight was my night to uncork this Taylor Fladgate 30-year Tawny and share it with my only smoking buddy. Sadly, he was detained yet again by his contemptible wife (who NEVER lets him spend time with friends, that over-controlling wench! :bucktooth:) So thankful I have a great wife who implores me to spend time with my buddies...:)

My wife is great in that she always implores me to hang out with my friends too... of course, that's kind of easy to do - I have none lol!! Just joking.

But in all seriousness, I don't know if I would be running her (your buddies wife) down as much as you are - I mean seriously, he needs to grow a pair. If my wife micromanaged me, I wouldn't have a wife.

My dog is my summertime smoking buddy but for some reason she's terrified of the garage heater. Even when she's inside, she goes and hides in the basement when it's running. She's afraid of NOTHING else. Dunno if she got her snout too close to it or what the deal is, but she won't join me during the winter.

That said, the remarks about buddy's wife, I agree. Either he's using her as excuse, or needs a prescription for some growacet.

So how was the port?
I just tried some for the first time Saturday night with a decent cigar. I told myself to start trying other things with my cigars to see if it help me to detect more flavors. I did enjoy it but I might have to have a little Jack on the side next time ;)

Jack is good :).

If you have a nice maduro - try some drinking chocolate. Not hot chocolate, drinking chocolate. It's expensive but man does it bring out the flavour in a dark stick. Small cup is all you need - sip here and there and Bob's your uncle.

Enjoy the Jack! :)

Port is OUTSTANDING with a cigar. You gotta take small, patient sips and really savor it. Sweet, great mouthfeel and a long finish. Start cheap with a Sandeman Tawny Porto -- only $16/bottle or so. I buy it by the case now. It's my go-to beverage because I'm just not partial to hard liquor, and beer is sometimes too filling after dinner. Port is the ultimate after-dinner beverage IMO.

Didn't crack open the 30-year Taylor Fladgate as hoped last night; waiting for my buddy to grow a pair as @SeaGarr said! :D

LOL - sorry if that was a bit harsh. I have never been known to be exactly... PC :).

As for your love for Port, I agree with you. Love the stuff. But if you don't like a red... you don't like a red. Port... Nom. Nom!!

I love a nice port with a cigar. I think wine overall really goes well cigars. Actually drank a bottle Sunday with a AF 8-5-8 Maduro.
Whoa! :jawdrop: I haven't attempted that feat yet. How did it end? I drank about 2/3 of a bottle the day before last and Mr. Headache paid me a visit. :hungover:

@ZippoGeek , you made me google this port to read the reviews. Sounds like everybody loves it.. Hefty price tag though. I had a real good New York State port last night, I recommend it, Glenora (Finger Lakes) Port.
It's definitely a spendy, special occasion Port -- the kind that pi$$es the wife off when you bring it home! Ordinarily she's great, but for some reason she glanced at the receipt and had a minor meltdown. The way I see it, if it's as good as the reviews say and it lasts 7-10 days, it'll be worth it. My go-to daily is the Sandeman Tawny Porto, only $14/bottle when you get it by the case at Premier.

Where'd you get that Glenora? I'm always up for something different...

@ZippoGeek , I got the Glenora right from the Winery. But I'm almost positive the last time I was in premier I saw it. It's fairly inexpensive ($14-$18). I'll try and remember to by a bottle of the Sandeman next time I'm in there.

Been aiming to pick up a port and haven't. One night after some Chicken Chardonnay, I had another glass, chilled, with a mild cigar (don't remember which one). It was very enjoyable.
