Hey BOTL,
Another question from Mr. Draned about cigars.
My wife and I got some good news a few weeks back, and I need a cigar.
Not a cigar to smoke right away, but one to stash until around October. If things go well, I will be torching it at some point in time during that month. Exact day, not too sure...
So the question is this, what do I get to put in my tupperdor for that special day?
Thanks!

That is entirely up to you. I can tell you that X cigar is the best for things like that, and when you smoke it, it's the worse thing you've ever smoked, or it could be a knock your socks off wow situation. Whatever you decide on, get two of something, or, better still 3 of something. Try one now, if you like it, put it down for a few months, then smoke the second one, then, if you still like it, on the big day (she's pregnant isn't she?) you smoke the final one...

The ones I keep stashed are tatuaje 2012 cojonu sumatra's. Can't think of a cigar I have enjoyed more than that one. Which justifies it for a special occasion cigar.
I think you should buy a cigar that you really enjoy an bury it in the tupperdor. I use to do that with la riqueza's. And they got super good with age haha. I could suggest an opus or a pardon, but really just make it something you know you will enjoy.

So far, I have really, really enjoyed these:
Illusione Rothchildes
My Father Flor de Las Antillas
DE LP9
Oliva Serie V Melanio
Leaf by Oscar

I can narrow it down to those ones, but that takes the fun out of hearing what you guys like to smoke. You really do point me in the direction of cigars that I either have no knowledge of, or that I forgot that I liked.
I'm thinking I'll have to try a couple more this weekend (from the bombs that hit my mailbox), see if they make the above list, and go from there!

In my opinion and clearly it is just one man's opinion on the internet, Oliva or FDLA are not good enough to be special occasion cigars ever at their price point. This is not about what one can afford or cannot afford for everyday smokes.

For $20 a stick, I expect to be wowed and not just okayed.
. My Father Limited Edition (everyone loves the 10 but hard to get)
. Any Casa Fuente
. Ratzilla
. Pepin 10th (my recommendation if you can find one.)
. Don Carlos lance
. Tatuaje Wet Packed Cojonus
. Tatuaje Black Lance.

There ya go.
