Epilogue: the wax worked perfectly. I have a 1940s era Kaywoodie Canadian that was turning my fingers red with stain from the wood. A couple coats of this stuff sealed the deal. Literally.

I have that and I like it a lot. Two things to note if you've not used it before. First, let it harden for at least 15 minutes before buffing. I usually give it an hour or so - long enough so that when I return it has a hazy look to it. Secondly, don't use it on a rusticated or sandblasted pipe. The wax gets into the pits and it's really hard to get out. I would suggest getting the halcyon wax for those pipes.

If you do use the Paragon wax on a non-smooth surface, just know it's going to take some extra time (and some small detail buffing) to buff it.

Other than that, I really like it. I still prefer carnuba wax on my stems but the paragon is harder than carnuba and has a higher heat tolerance - good for the bowls

I have only used Carnuba wax but I have found a heat gun can be a life saver when waxing rusticated pipes. After buffing I hit the bowl with a heat gun and hand buff with a soft cloth. Works great!
