Adventures in home rolling

To age mine, after the drybox they go into a coolerdor. I try to let them sit for a few weeks before trying. The ones I don't try right away used to get frozen after a few weeks rest then back into the coolerdor for a few weeks. I haven't been freezing them lately because I have been a little lazy and there isn't room in our tiny freezer for the amount of sticks I have been rolling. Once I'm moved into our new place and get my large freezer I will freeze all the leaf as it comes in and not have to worry about freezing post rolling

I leave the sticks in the mold for a few days to dry then once wrapped I store them in a cigar box. Write down the blend info and "box date" on an index card and tape it to the box. I went ahead and froze all my leaf so I don't have to worry about freezing sticks post-roll anymore. I also don't have to worry about beetles invading my leaf stock before I get to it which is nice.


Edit - Just want note I generally won't put a stick in the mold if Im going to smoke it ROTT or as a cheroot. Those I just roll free hand.

The best advice I can give any home roller is to roll a metric assload as much as possible. Way more than you smoke and or gift to make sure you have a stockpile always aging. Too much is not even close to enough.

Yes!!! That cheroot ain't bad at all either!

I initially started this thread thinking if I could get just one unfortunate soul pushed down this slope it was a success. Loving all the new rollers that are chiming in!! Rolling your own really gives you a better understanding and appreciation for cigars and has really grown a passion for them for me.

And @nic, go fill your beer glass.

I think you've succeeded in pushing people of that cliff, man lol. I'd considering giving home rolling a shot if I didn't have a baby on the way lol.

Well, 3 finished, plus the 1 cheroot. The ring gauge is way over what I expected, but I'll get that figured out. They look like turds, but that'll get better the more I roll. All 4 are a bit spongy, we'll see how the tighten up as they dry out. Overall, a nice way to spend an afternoon. 2 more to wrap tomorrow. I want to see how over night in the mould changes things.

They will dry and firm up quite a bit, you will be surprised. Those look way better than my first sticks!!

I believe that wholeleaftobacco.com and leafonly.com both ship international but I know LO has higher shipping costs. Not sure what your tax man does for whole leaf as opposed to other tobacco products. What if a brother from the states ships you some "cooking herbs"??

We're not allowed raw tobacco unless we get a letter of the attorney general. And because we're a nanny country now days the tax man wants $663 per kilo so yeah just sit here and dream about it and watch you guys

Whoa damn!!! That is brutal! Are you allowed to grow your own if you have some land? That's the next step for me, even though it will be on a small scale.
