I couldn't agree more. I've tried scotch a few times and I always explain it as "licking a bandaid". Which is funny because that's the same word you used. I love bourbon and I have a bunch of bottles so I'll just stick with that. I'll keep the scotch for guests, but I don't plan on having another glass
Well now I'm glad I'm not crazy for saying that (band aids). Haha. My motto is "you can only try something once for the first time but it doesn't have to be the last, seasons change and so can your mind".

I plan on searching for my go-to scotch. It may take awhile though. I'm just grateful I have Bourbon to fall back on

Laphroaig is my favorite but from your post I don't think you will like it any time soon. A lot of cigar lounges will have scotch tasting nights once in a while you can check there or maybe a tasting a t a local brewery or liquor store.

Don't really have the coin at this point in my life. I can afford a bottle every 2 months. I am going to the next Whiskey Fest though
Whiskey fest, bourbon fest are the places to go and try things out!!! I was at a bourbon fest over the winter and I got intrigued at some new bourbons I wouldn't of ever thought to try. Same as beers too.

I was quite buzzed at the bourbon fest from sampling so many different kinds. I took some pictures of the bottles since I wasn't going to be able to write down what I was sampling.

Understandable but I'd still say use one of those two months to sample a bunch. Find a good bar/bartender because most will let you u sample as long as you buy one and tip well and by the time those 2 months pass you should have a good idea of a bottle to buy. And whiskey fest sounds good too. Good luck with it. Scotch tasting notes are just different from bourbon tho and as was said especially the peaty ones. I honestly can't think of a scotch that delivers the same heavy flavorful hearty notes the way that bourbon does tho

As i explained (or tried to) I wanted to ensure a smooth transition into Scotch and after researching that was the best expression I could find. After 6 bottle purchases (of never sampling), I've never really had a terrible experience, I guess I was hoping my luck would follow. That was my first mistake, especially considering that the Scotch world Is so vast. Live and learn.

Guess I didn't get out much as a kid. I see there are a few band aid lickers here. Strange behavior lol :)

I need to get out more then, never was into the bar scene as youngin

That makes sense though. That's why I love Bourbon so much, it's unique. On the other side of the coin scotch is very unique, just in a way I don't quite love....yet.
