Back in May, I pre-ordered the Las Calaveras 2016 Cigar Sampler and finally got around to checking in on the status. In all honesty, I kind of forgot about it.

I called up the vendor (not trying to name names here) and they pretty much said that the item is discontinued and no longer available. The rep spoke with her supervisor and he said unfortunately, someone should have contacted you about that. And at this time, there is nothing they can do. So, pretty much I'm SOL.

I'm pretty bummed, but more out of principle than anything. I don't understand how pre-orders can be messed up and why there was no communication if they did take too many pre-orders.

I guess my question is, for pre-orders, are consumers the ones that take the full risk if the retailer is not able to fulfill the order?

Oh yeah and no worries, I'm going to hit up my buddy and snag a 5er of the LC2016 from him, he just doesn't know it yet.

IIRC, not everyone got their full allotment of orders because demand was high. So the vendor places an order with Crowned Heads, then sells that pre-order to you; Crowned Heads fulfills say 75% of the vendor's order so the vendor fills what they can and cancels the rest. Nobody did anything wrong, just the way it worked out.

A vendor should not offer a pre order on an uncertain amount of boxes.

Who was the vendor? I think it would be a good thing to share that info so people can be careful when dealing with them.
i'd rather not say. i've personally ordered from them numerous times and the customer service has always been up to par. i was more curious about whether "pre-orders" were a guarantee or not. i guess i always knew they weren't just surprised is all.

I think MOST vendors tend to sell preorders based on the order they submit to the company.

I pre-ordered something from a well known vendor earlier this year that never came through as well. I used the lapyap option, and apparently lapyap will only keep a payment open for 7 days before they cancel it. The vendor emailed me to call them and resolve it a month later. After that, I've made sure to use the credit card instead.

that's interesting, as i used the lapyap option as well. i'll start using a credit card in the future as well for pre-orders

Not sure if lapyap does it too but if you did go the credit card route you can always dispute the charges and let them hash it out with the company if you don't get refunded.

Yeah, lapyap doesn't allow for anyone to hold an authorization longer than 7 days, and requires the initial authorization immediately upon placing the order. On credit card most companies (like Famous) don't charge for the preorder until it ships. I'm not sure what others do, but we only take pre-orders for what we know we are getting from the vendor, even if we ordered more. That doesn't mean it all arrives on the same day, like for the skinny monsters, we got half our shipment each week for two weeks.

@FullyArmedFISD if it was Famous customer service that told you we were sold out, they gave you bad info. Let me know and we will take care of it for you (I sent you a PM). If it wasn't famous, we have all sizes in boxes available still and can help you out.
