A.J Fernandez - Last Call
It starts of with a red pepper blast that will surprise you. This is a scorcher through the first hand full of puffs. There is a nice cedar taste in the background. Half Wheel says there is a spoiled vanilla taste. I don't want to know how he got that reference point. To me it taste like well fermented and toasty tobacco. It doesn't really strike me as vanilla. There is a smokey note that when mixed with the red pepper does remind me of paprika, a little bit. There is some signature Fernandez character, but I think this really shows his evolution as a blender.
However you want to dissect the flavor profile, this is proof that first rate cigars don't have to cost twelve dollars. I need a few to rest a couple of months instead of a week.
Edit:
A little deeper in to the smoke now. Not exactly sure how far since the street light went out. Any how, earthy coffee with a hint of vanilla and caramel come in. On the retro the red pepper pops with a lemon and pine flavor. I've read that there is a charred grass flavor. To me it is more like the charred skin of a pepper. I see it in my mind but can't recall the name. It is definitely tasty.
In the last third and I'm starting to think this is a must have. A five pack should probably be in your humidor by Friday. Coffee, caramel, oak, nuts, pine and spice are leading a cavalcade of flavors to the nub.
When was the last time a five dollar stick reminded you why you began the hobby? I'm.reminded of something I read a while back. A good cigar reminds you of all the bounties and varieties that nature offers.
