Hey All,
So I’m taking a trip with the family overseas to Spain in a couple weeks and I was trying to find the current regulations on Cuban cigars. I know the restrictions were loosened coming directly from Cuba, but is it still illegal to bring back Cubans from another country? I found the most recent limits and all that, but I wanted to clarify before I end up buying some and loosing them all.

Thanks all, Justin

I just brought some with my last trip to HK and the customs agent said I could bring in up to 100 duty free. I brought in 75 this last trip and had no issue whatsoever. For what it’s worth I cleared customs in Texas.

We have a house in the Philippines (wife is from there) they make some very good Cigars there
I was under the impression it was $800 worth of goods which may include 100 cigars then you pay duty on any over that amount. This is per person

I think your right @Fusion555 from the numbers I have seen it is $800 or 100 cigars, changed recently I think, maybe 2016?
And thank you all for the confirmations. I’m sure I won’t be anywhere near the 100 cigars, but I wouldn’t mind bringing a few back.

From what I understand, @Fusion555 is correct. As of November 2016 it is ok to bring back as much as you want as long as they are for personal use. You must declare them and anything over $800 you have to pay duty on them.I went to Germany last April and brought back a bunch at that time and that’s what I did.

Edit: the $800 (per person) is actually a personal exemption for all merchandise that you are bringing back. In other words you have to declare everything that you are bringing back including souvenirs and such. The value of your cigars would be a part of that.

@Prine a lot of illegitimate cigars float around in Spain, if in doubt at all post pics in the forum so some of the more knowledgeable folks like @Glassman and @ChuckMejia can weigh in
Thank you Jon, I kinda figured the counterfeits would be bad over there. I’m hoping I found a few decent places to look at. I mean if nothing else I’ll just pick up some glass top Cuban boxes and send em to @Glassman for authenticity testing :sneaky:

I brought back some from a cruise and they didn't even ask the value. They asked what we brought back and I told them cigars and alcohol and they let me walk right through. In Texas you have to pay sales tax on the liquor and cigarettes but not cigars. We didn't have to fill out declaration forms like we did in the past either.

I’m hoping it’s a much easier process then I expect it to be. It sounds like it will not be as bad as I was expecting which will be nice. As long as I find authentic cigars anyway

Reading and trying to understand the Customs website is like trying to read a foreign language.

I think they said $800 per person (treated as a family group) is without duty. Then the next $1000 per person is taxed at 4% So you can bring in a total of $1800 per person (max 100 cigars) for $40

Anything over $1800 per person is considered a commercial import and different laws apply

I've never seen any specific amounts when it comes to what is considered more than personal consumption... do you have a link to this? It has always been subjective (publicly at least) from what I've seen/heard.
