You are definitely a better man then I if you can drink all that mead! I understand there is a wide variety of tastes available but the ones I've had always tasted more like a sauterne wine then anything else. I had planned to make a BBQ trip to Lockhart and pass by Desert Door distillery to try the aged Sotol you posted about earlier but had a change of plans

Let us know what you think!!

Haha! The truth is I actually don't like about 90 percent of the mead I try. Most are too sweet and don't have much character to them. I tend to like semi-sweet or dry ones. I HIGHLY recommend Thorin's Viking Mead...it is mildly sweet and has this almost....malty finish to it that is wonderful. Texas Mead Works makes a semi-sweet one that's pretty damn good too.

Oh man...I need to go to Lockhart again.

@Glassman I don't recall, there where a bunch of young people handling the checkout. I picked up a bottle of Legent and a bottle of Smooth Ambler Old Scout Rye Cask Strength Single Barrel. Wife found a good price on some wines she had been looking for and that was the bulk of our purchase.

Oh, I thought you grabbed the 8 and sand there. Saw him recommending it to someone yesterday. If you ever go back you’ve got to try their store picks. You didn’t take advantage of the tasting bar?

May well have but my sheet said I got the Eight and Sand at TW. Since we where cutting the vacation short to get home before the hurricane we just did a couple of stop and shops. Mainly looking for stuff that isn't available locally. We still have two days paid for at an inn in Waynesville so I'm trying to get back up there. Maybe for Mardi Gras or if you guys re-schedule the herf.

Well, they usually only allow you three pours. So you could get three, and you’re wife could get three, so you could try all the store pics that you’re interested in. Or stop there on your way up and your way back.

oooooo, wells and fitz. Nice grab (snatch)
Wasn’t even looking for the old Fitz, but I’d been seeing it various places for between 250 and 400 over the last year, so getting it offered for $140 I really couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Been looking hard for that W12, the only places I’d been able to find it wanted 200 - 300..... just oh, hell no! Finally Finding it for msrp was a relief.
And don’t discount that blenders select. Super sweet tasty blend that one. Love it.

Needed another handle of vodka for my famous (to me) vodka and lime sodas I started making two months ago when I gave up beer (health reasons). Went through a Buffalo Trace Vodka handle in about that time so I wanted to replace it with something new and exciting. Hopefully I made the right choice. Also needed some more Malbec, because why not.

Story Time.

A couple weeks back I sat in front of a store at 6am awaiting it's open at 9am due to stating "special bourbons to be released". Just so happens I'm #1 in line. When they open I go in and the gent says (and I've spent a lot of $$ there), " I don't have the bottles yet but you are #1 when I get them at a great price". Fucking Awesome.

Well, yesterday I get the call and a photo. In the picture is a VW 10 year. This cat knows I've never had a Van Winkle and I am super stoked. I immediately head to the store and he places it front of me. Imagine my glee. Then the hammer falls as he types in the price. $499.00. I lost my shit and told him to keep it. What a fucking joke. The stupidity of the gent not to understand that his actions on a good customer (gouging) just cost him much more in sales than if he were to give this good customer a good deal. $300 cost him thousands.

So, that's my story. The quest continues but I WILL NOT support secondary. Especially a store that I know gets at less than MSRP. They think we are idiots.

Stand and Deliver.

What a crock of shit....pulls you in (twice) for the release of special bottles, then wants full secondary for the VW. Just wrong. Will you continue to shop at the place for regular pours, or is this place off the list now?

You bet it is. It's sofa king stupid in Michigan. Even the store owners are raping the public. The only way I get things is either by sheer luck or traveling out of state and getting lucky.

By the way in case anyone was interested in hearing my thoughts, Damn this was good Vodka. It had a creaminess and even a strange sweet cocoa note. It stood up excellent to dilution and blended really well. Forgot to include what soda I used; Polar Bear Sparkling Grapefruit water

Clive can’t even find the basic desirable premium stuff in his part of Michigan. Don’t think he can even find 4R single barrel..... :bored:

I feel his pain. 4R stuff is extremely tough. I know of maybe 3 in the state that see it, and when they do show up it's inside of an hour and they are gone. Same with anything Buffalo Trace and up. Absolutely insane. I wouldn't be so pissed if they were drinking it.
