...if your cigar swells as you smoke it and the wrapper is cracking apart...

Is that the result of the RH being too high or low?

I am smoking one of the Gurkha X Fuertes I got fron Cbid last week and the thing looks like an exploding cigar.

My hygro reads 67% and has been proven to be quite accurate in the past.

A little help here guys because I can't remember what makes a cigar do this.

P.S. I have smoked two Toranos from the same shipment and they smoked fine.

They usually ship them kinda wet so they probably need longer time to dry out. Need one of those humidity testers you can stick in the end of the cigar, that would be cool.

i've been told that it is because they're too dry in the box, then brought out into a high humidity environment. this has happend a couple times with me, both times i was in the jaccuzi!

hope this helps,

it is a higher RH i believe... the smoke and heat pushes the condensation/water to the outside trying to escape the building pressure on the inside of the cigar...

I have no clue if that is right, but it sounds good

That is really weird, tight now I am smoking a Gurhka Ghenghis Kahn and it is doing the exact same thing.the wrapped is all cracked, it looks like this cigars line has a very very thin wrapper too.

This could also happen if you are smoking in cold weather b/c the water inside the cigar will warm while you are smoking it, causing it to expand. This would then push against the wrapper causing it to crack. In this situation there might not be anything wrong with your RH,

Note: If the Gurkha had a thinner or more delicate of a wrapper than the Torano’s, this would explain why it did not happen to them.

about the X-Fuerte. I've smoked 3 or 4 that did that and then decided to (now don't get any erotic images) slightly wet the cigar from the foot to as close to the first band as possible by rolling it in my mouth. I would keep the bands on as long as possible to maintain the integrity of the wrapper. I have enjoyed my last 2 with very, very few problems.

Never had a problem with the Khan Donk. One of my favs and I try to keep 5to 10 on hand. Hope you get to enjoy one all the way through without a wrapper problem....they have a very nice taste to them.

Remind me to post a picture of one of these I took last week. The wrapper split from the foot upwards for about five inches. Smoked it, with a "thread repair" and it was still good; just had to be careful handling it.

From the initial light it started expanding and the wrapper started craking...I could hear it as I drew on it. It did that until about half way up and stopped.

The cigar was good and smoked well even with the wrapper exploding.

Weird.

I guess I will give these some more time in the humidor before smoking another one.

In the name of science  I will smoke a different Gurkha tonight and see if it does the same thing. (If not tonight then tomorrow morning)

This has been my experience as well, minus the jaccuzi.

I'm smoking my second X - Fuerte. I like it and I hope it doen't split. The first one didn't split but I think I cut to much of the tip off and the draw was way loose. I hope this one is better.

todd, it happens when the cigar is too wet.
Thanks. I was having a brain fart today and couldn't remember.

I am smoking a Regent Class that came in the same shipment and it is trying to split but the thicker wrapper is holding together.

I'll just let this group rest and stabilize for a while.
