On Deck Sticks

For those of us who drybox or otherwise set aside specific cigars for the next week...I figured it might be fun to start a thread to show those sticks that are up next for burnin'. Dryboxing is a necessity for me, and I use this cool little leather humidor my wife got me to store my upcoming smokes and let them dry out a bit.

Here are the three for next weekend:

I pull a month's worth of smokes for 1 a day, for the current month and the following month.

First picture is what's left for July, second is for August
I dont dry box, and everything is kept at 65% right up until smoking

I've heard about dry storage but never tried it. So you basically take them out of humidified storage and put them in another sealed container without any humidification for a week?

Yup! For folks that live in high humidity, it is a necessity. I struggle to keep my tups under 70%. My cigars, especially maduros, smoke like crap if I don't give them a little drybox time.

I live in a very dry climate. Right now we have 9% humidity outside. I keep my smokes at around 72%. They still seem like sometimes they are to moist. Maybe I'll start by letting them sit for 2-3 days, and then go longer if needed??? Hmmmm...

9%?!? Sheesh we are at 70% here right now. May as well make my shirts out of Spanish cedar because i basically live in a humidor.

I live in the same dry climate and keep my humis at 65 and still dry box for a day before smoking. Just depends how ya like em. The wrapper firms up slightly in a day. Try it, you might like the way they smoke

Do you leave them in the cello when you dry box?

I'm also at 5100' elevation. Don't know if that matters or not.

The “average” humidity in Louisiana is 73% in July. Many days higher than that. Hell, even unattended humidors inside don’t drop below 40% (experiment I tried)
I try to keep my cigars in the low 60s. And usually take a handful in put a hard case travel humidor with no additional Boveda packs for ones I plan to smoke. I even leave a ziplock bag in my police unit for up to a month to dry them up a bit because if not, the humidity plays hobnobs with uneven burns.

What % Bovedas do you use? I am making the switch from 65 to 62.

I use 1 84% in my tuppadores with 75-100 sticks. For storage. I find RH stays low 70s. In my humidors and “soon to smoke” tuppadores 62s reign supreme.

I experimented with a bunch of dog rocket Ghurkas and put 2 84s in there. They started to grow mold but I find the single 84 pack and over stuff with cigars and it maintains a nice balance.

I take them out of the cello before dry boxing. But it is only one day, so not sure it matters much.

This is the reason why I use 58% Boveda which usually gets me right around 60-62. Most of my upcoming smokes I store in a wooden humidor that stores 120 or so. Ritual and all that.

Add me to the never dry boxed in 15 years of smoking, and have never felt the need group.

I keep everything at 65%, and unless the Cigar has construction issues, I never had a problem.

Even smoking rott, when the sticks are still likely at a higher rh from the vendor still, have never felt the need.

I have recently read some saying that the flavors improved from dry boxing, so I'm considering trying some back to back comparison with one fresh out of my tupperdoors and one dry boxed to see though.

I'm all for anything that improves the flavor

I usually only dry box for a few hours. I use old cigar boxes with no humidification. So, I am a bit afraid to let them sit too long. For some it makes a difference, for others it does nothing.

I use 5L Sistema containers with three 65% Bovedas. So my RH is around 65% - 68% anyway.

Interesting.

I have 4 of the largest sistemas, and 4 of the mediums and use 65% bovadas and it is perfect. Way fewer issues than when I was going with 62%

Nice!! I'll level with you and admit that I hadn't even HEARD of them until it arrived in the mail and I read the info sheet that came with it.
