Okay, I have a question about habanos...What makes a cigars draw not work? I find with alot of the lonsdale sizes and even some of the thinner RGed churchills that they don't draw well. What happens to me is they're not plugged, but very little smoke comes through the cigar. I was so agrivated yesterday that I threw a Partagas 898 against the wall because I had to puff like four times each draw to get smoke. This ends up over heating the cigar and then there's double the problem. I know every once in awile it happens with NCs also, but for me not nearly as much. Anyone know what causes this?? :angryteet

yup, had that happen as well. I so wish I could say that I just love habanos, but so far there were very few that impressed me and made me wanna buy a box.
I also get aggrevated and just rip the damn thing apart.

until the day I find consitantly good CC's, I'll stick with my NC's, so many good ones there anyway.

Generally the '99's and '00 years were plagued with construction issues due to the boom. Especially if you're smoking thinner ring gauges such as lonsdales. The tight draw can be attributed to too much tobacco in the cigar. A draw poker works well in some instances but the smoke will not be the same IMO but it's better than nothing. Given many years in the humi, tight rolled (read-not plugged) cigars can loosen up once the tobacco is given time to age and shrink.

Like others said, it's a hand rolled product so it will happen. Current production supposedly goes through a draw machine which cuts down on the tight draw issues.

For any cigar, I suggest cutting the end cap and trying several dry draws before setting the foot to the torch. If the draw is too tight, simple place the stick back in the humidor and frgetabout it for several months. Sometimes they open up if not totally plugged. Just grab another stick and try again. I have almost turned blue trying to get some sticks to smoke, only to be frustrated and tossing.

Two nights ago I was smoking a Rocky Patel "Fusion" and it was almost un-smokable.

It took 4 or 5 pulls on it to get any smoke out of it. It was frustrating and embarrassing.

I say embarrassing because the way I was holding that damn thing and sucking on it would have looked only a LITTLE less gay if it had been a woman doing the sucking instead of me. Thank the gods the fucker wasn't pink.

I still managed to smoke the entire thing though.

I clicked on this thread thinking it was about something else. While here I'll throw my two cents in. Somebody on another thread suggested a bamboo skewer (for cooking). Found this works well.

i think CWS suggested a small diameter drill bit. I know Donk uses one and has had good results. i still use a skewer

I have a few custom made tools for that, made from a wire coat-hanger. Nice wooden handle on one end and an extremely sharp point on the other. It's small enough diameter to not cause wrapper cracking and works pretty well.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Headbanger, I'm takin your advice. You're so right, it does get very frustrating. Especially when you've just downloaded Dogwatch, it's 78 degrees outside and it's Sun afternoon. :crytears:
