If there was an actual forum titled "Wild Hair Projects" this would definitely be its poster child. My front porch had pier footings that were poured on fill dirt. So naturally it has settled. The first time this happened I jacked the entire porch up 1 1/2 inches and put some blocking under the posts. Unfortunately, this was like putting a bandaid on internal bleeding. So today I decided to go whole hog and fix this unit once and for all. I've got post to replace, a roof to raise, a floor to take out, footers to dig, concrete to pour, floor to frame, decking to install, columns to make and install, railings to fabricate and install, but I put my foot down when it comes to painting.

So far, I've just made a big mess and spent the equivalent to a box of esplendidos, but I'm having fun.

Wish me luck.

Nothing I love and hate more than home projects! I love them in the beginning, then hate them at the end. Good luck! I hope it all works out okay.

Ouch that video hurt!

Good luck with the project. The shore house we rented this summer has a porch that is off too. I think by about 5 inches though!

Well day one is rapidly coming to an end, and no bleeding, no missing digits, only two busted knuckles. All in all not bad.

That looks as fun as what I am doing.

My wife came home Friday with a new shower curtain, towels, toothbrush holder, etc., etc., etc. She decided it was time to redecorate my daughters bathroom. I looked at what she had bought and decided the light blue paint wouldn't look good and that it needed a repaint. Then I got thinking the tile on the floor needs to be replaced. And while I'm at it, lets add a wainscot, new vanity, mirror, and a new light fixture. Well that wasn't enough, I couldn't leave the ugly ass cultured marble bath surround so now I have the greenboard removed so I can install cement backer board to tile the entire bathtub to the ceiling.

What started out as a quick paint and redecorate job has escalated into a full remodel of the bathroom. The only thing staying will be the toilet! I told her no more redecorating rooms without talking to me first.

I hate doing large projects by myself. It always takes forever simply because I don't have an extra pair of hands to hand me a drill or something while I am trying to keep the wall from falling down.

My GF is pretty good at helping with indoor plumbing projects, but anything other than that and she loses interest really fast.
