What's the difference between "dynamic" and "static" contrast ratios? I can't find this difference online anywhere.
And then this....Thus the ratio of the luminosity of the brightest and the darkest color the system is capable of producing simultaneously at any instant of time is called static contrast ratio, while the ratio of the luminosity of the brightest and the darkest color the system is capable of producing over time is called dynamic contrast ratio.
If the display is plasma, a given static ratio will show superior contrast to LCD display of the same contrast ratio.
It is also common to market only the dynamic contrast ratio capability of a display (when it is supported), which should not be directly compared to the static contrast ratio. A plasma display with a static 5000:1 contrast ratio will show superior contrast to an LCD display with 5000:1 dynamic and 1000:1 static contrast ratio when the input signal contains full range of brightnesses from 0 to 100% simultaneously. However they will be on par when input signal ranges only from 0 to 20% brightness.
On the humungo-wall-of-every-tv-known-to-man at Circuit City, to my eyes that Samsung had the best 40"-42" picture of them all. I stared at every one including the Sony and Sharp in question and kept on coming back to the Samsung. Back home to do research, the Samsung models got great reviews online as well.Circuit City also offers the Samsung 40" LNT4061F LCD with the Samsung Home Theater in a Box HTX70 for $1699 right now.
its cause static means to not move or at one time, and dynamic means over time or as it changes.I found this info for you...hope it helps your out on your quest for your HDTV.
And then this....

Very cool of Amazon. And the Holiday craziness continues. From www.dealcatcher.com:
Samsung 46-inch 1080p LCD HDTV + Free Harmony 550 Remote + $100 GC to NFLShop
$1,529.98 with Free Shipping
Great deal for this hdtv! Not only is the hdtv a great price, but you get a nice remote and $100 to spend at NFLShop. I just bought this hdtv just four days ago for $1,599 without the cool bonuses. I called Amazon and they gave the $70 credit and the free remote. Good news is that if this goes even cheaper in the next 30 days, which I predict it will, just call them up and they'll credit your account.
Features include:
1920 x 1080 (1080p) Resolution
10,000:1 Contrast Ratio
3 HDMI, 2 Component [ Rebate ]
