Pretty interesting...

Maybe you've seen this and maybe you haven't...it's worth viewing one more time!

How many zeros in a billion?
This is too true to be funny.
The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of it's releases.
A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government
is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ....
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
what does it mean?

A.
Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
you each get $516,528.

B.
Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C.
Or... if you are a family of four...
your family gets $2,066,012.

Reminds me of that old joke. The three most common lies. #1 I won't ---- in your mouth, #2 the check is in the mail, and I can't remember #3

Who dreams up the crap that hits our inboxes? I wanna bitch slap the ever lovin' shit out of 'em. Feel free to check my math but...

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
By my reckoning (with the help of MS Excel) a billion seconds ago takes us back to June, 1977.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
Only if he lived to the ripe old age of 105 or so.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
With a billion hours being more than 114,000 years ago, this one is correct thanks to a very, very large margin for error. The "stone age" (Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic ages) began about 1.5 million years ago and lasted until just a few thousand years ago, depending on which culture's stone age you're talking about.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
Upright bipedalism dates back to about 6 million years ago...quite a bit farther back than 2,739,726 years (roughly a billion days).

WOW...some great food for thought!
For sure but unless we do something about it,,,it's just undigested food which will end up making us all sick very very soon.
And just think the current "stimulus" bill will end up costing in excess of 1 TRILLION DOLLARS.....madness. :angerFU:
I heard the quote was more towards 1.3 trillion dollars due in 3 years and after that it goes up again if it isn't paid.
Atta boy. Keep them honest. No one checks this crap. Nice catch.
Even with the revised version of numbers and money we're still going to be in a tremendous hole. Read what this gentleman said about 200 years ago as I think you will remember him:

Thomas Jefferson in some cases could be called a prophet.

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.

Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the

government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense

of taking care of them.

Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results

from too much government.

Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear

arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which

he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

Thomas Jefferson

Very Interesting Quotes

In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what Thomas

Jefferson said in 1802:

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than

standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control

the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.'

What concerns me is that a billion is not that much anymore (according to our government). They are starting to talk trillions. I think that all this spending is going to snowball us back into the stone age.

What will the military be paying for a toilet seat in the next 20 years, $200,000?

Huh? One billion = 1,000,000,000 (nine zeros) everywhere, not just in America.
I hate to disagree. One thing, when I said in america Imeant they teach it like that only in america, not that it wouldn't apply for ye elsewhere. That what ye mention is really one thousand millions when taught elsewhere.
