I live in a Twin Cities suburb in probably the most tobacco unfriendly state in the union. My cigar store owner told me that there is a 70% tax on cigars here.
I retired in January of '08 from 36 years in accounting and IT. Quit cigarettes in 1990 after many years. Got into cigars playing golf with an enthusiast last summer. Jumped in with both feet. Current favorites are Arturo Fuente and Oliveros 1927's. Being retired, I can't really afford the super premium Fuente's, so I usually go for the 858's or curlyheads. The Oliveros I found on Cigars International, and I've never seen them anywhere else. I find them to be delicious for my tastes.
Back in the early 70's I used to have a regular chess game during which we used to drink cognac and smoke Swisher Sweets, and I remember liking the experience.
In retirement, I play golf 3 or 4 times a week in the warm weather, and in the winter I wish I was playing. Usually go someplace warm for a couple of weeks each year. Trouble with winter here is that, since I've agreed not to smoke in the house, I have to go to my local store which has a lounge. However, you are expected to buy something each time, and it gets kind of expensive. I discovered that it's no fun at all standing out in the cold for a smoke.
If anyone has any suggestions for other brands I might try that are similar to my preferences, it would be appreciated.
Anyhow, it's 65 and sunny outside. I think I'll go out and have a smoke!
