Hey everybody! My name's Rich, from Kings Park, NY on Long Island, and I've been lurking around the forum here for a couple of days, so I figured it's about time I made myself a formal introduction.
It was my 19th birthday in the beginning of June, and a couple days afterwards I was walking in Riverhead and came upon a cigar store. I purchased a Macanudo Thames, cut it with my swiss army knife and enjoyed my first cigar on the side of the Potomac River. Since then I've tried six or seven cigars, and kept very rudimentary notes (among favorites, good, not bad, would not have again). I've liked mostly milder cigars, the Thames, an Avo Uvezian no. 2 Tubo, and a Macanudo Hampton Court.
Any recommendations for other smokes to try? I'm also looking for a small, inexpensive humidification solution. Right now my humidor is my sock drawer and whatever tube the cigar came in, which hasn't been the best thing. What would you guys suggest if I don't want to break 40 or 50 bucks? How's that cigar caddy?
I look forward to a summer and a semester at school of enjoying cigars, refining my pallet and my notation and the knowledge this forum has to offer.
Lastly, is there anybody else living on Long Island around the Kings Park, Smithtown, Northport, Commack area? Where do you tend to buy your cigars?

Well Rich, you came to the right place. You can try to start reading reviews so that you can get some ideas of some other cigars.

Enjoy your stay!

Hey Rich, nice to see a total noob here, you came to the right place, lots to learn and many knowledgeable people here. Try the Oliva Serie V, all but the Lancero are more on the mild side, smooth and creamy. For humidification, get an appropriate sized Tupperware container, go back to that cigar shop and ask them for a 65% Boveda pack, should last you about 4 months or so in that Tupperware.

Good luck, read & never be shy about asking questions, in most cases with newer guys, Donk is wondering the same thing you are!

Cheers,
Wade

Yet another Long Islander! Wow, they're coming out of the wood work!!

Get a tupperware container that has a good seal and use that to store your cigars. Get some silica beads, like heartfelt beads to keep your cigars at a good rh. Or you could try a boveda pack in there to give you good rh.

Welcome brother! Just keep them out of the underwear drawer, you wouldn't want to infuse any stray flavors.
