The bad news, is when I went to Seattle, I had no internet the entire time I was there so I wasn't able to get the contact info of the people I wanted to smoke with. I took my caddy and came back +1 cigar.

Re: purge valves, They're handy, but you don't really need 'em. Most, maybe all, of the Otterboxes/Cigar Caddies have a latch with tabs on top and bottom that you can insert a lock through. If you land and the traveldor is sealed shut by the pressure (which it should be, if it's sealing right), just take a dime, insert it between the top and bottom tabs, and twist gently. Voila!

Also, one of the cheaper ways to buy them is to look for combos of traveldors with cigars that you like on cigarbid. That's how I've gotten most of mine.

I bought one of the xikar ones... I think it's a 15 count... they are nicely made, the hinges are good and the foam is nice and thick (not sure that's a good thing...)
I like it better than caring my sticks around in a baggie.

I use neither. Humidipak is the way to go
That is true if you are gone on a week long trip or longer. But I've read many places that if you are just doing a quick weekend trip, distilled water is just fine as the seal is so tight anyway. I know a lot of people don't want to open a humidipak for a weekend trip and could get by with distilled water, but you would know a lot more than I would!

Correct me if I'm wrong though Ron.

distilled water or solution is not the issue. The problem is that the humidifier that is built into the lid is too damned close to the top row of cigars. While it is safe to have a humidipak laying on top of your cigars, i would never want a florist foam humidifier laying that close to my cigars. That is an invitation for a soggy cigar, or moldy if stored longer term

most of us here are pretty sharp when it comes to these things, but a lot of the general public isnt.

also, while humidor solutions are proven to work well in wood desktops, they still tend to overhumidify in an airtight container like a cigar caddy.

I use the Humidipak in my humidor jar, and the humidity is perfect. i tried a florist foam humidifier with just 3 drops of humidor solution, and the humidor jar quickly became to humid.

for me, the Humidipak is the only way to go.

I have a Cigar Caddy 5er, a no name 16ct metal case type thing and a newly acquired 50ct Xikar that looks pretty BA. I can't wait to use it! A little modification is needed first, in the style of Wade & Scott. :stretchgr

I just got my CC...what do you all use for the humidification? Use solution or just distilled water?
I had an old tube that had crystals. Dumped them out, and filled it with RH beads. It stays rock solid at 65%, and I only lose 1 cigar slot in my 10 count case; been using it for a few years that way now. I did use a small piece of pantyhose fabric to keep the beads from rolling out the holes in the lid of the tube though. I
