I graduated in May, took a 4 month trip around the world and have been home two weeks and I just landed a great job in San Francisco! I'm a DC native and am excited to start a new chapter in my life across the country. I've already scouted out all the cigar shops and smoking clubs.

Start date is Feb. 15 so I gotta pack and try to figure out how to ship my humidor. :dunno:

Congrats man. There is a place in San Fran called the "Cigar Bar" the selection of sticks is not great but the food and drinks were good and on Friday and Saturday night they have live Latin music.

The Occidental cigar Club is a great place to hang out. The owner is a great guy, the drinks are good, the atmosphere is of professionals yet with a traditional irish flare.

I really enjoyed my brief time there....

The Occidental is 1.5 blocks from my office :)

It was the first place I visited. Lance is a cool guy, crowd seems good, nice drink selection, and NO CUTTING FEE!

Great new Jacob. CONGRATS!
What size is the humidor? I wonder if it would be safer and even cheaper to check it in on the plane? Maybe ship some other stuff you aren't going to need right away and aren't as expensive.
Either way I would have it filled and use bubble wrap or something like it to secure the cigars from moving inside. Then I would use brown paper to wrap the humidor like a gift and then tape the hell out of it to keep the lid/drawers closed tightly. Finally a ton of packaging to protect it in the box.

Thanks guys.

It's pretty hefty:

I was thinking of building a crate for it and using Greyhound's shipping services. It's relatively cheap to do it that way and I know it won't get banged around to hell like it would in checked luggage. FedEx Freight is another option but it's so pricey. The only downside to Greyhound is they only ensure up to $300 so if something happens to this I'm screwed.
