BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I throw them in a box, I am not ritualistic about it though. if I smoke one out I dont freak if I throw out the band.
Im keeping mine. Im thinking of doing some art with mine once I get enough.
Hey, cigar band collectors! Check this out!!!
As a newbie I have watched a good number of videos by "Doc" at www.stogiefresh.com and always found them insightful and valuable. The site is full of great information, reviews, tips, etc.
I noticed on his site that he is also an avid cigar band collector, so I asked him for pointers on the best techniques to remove the band from the cigar while limiting the potential for tearing and damage.
Well, Doc wrote me back thanking me for the question and:
"I'd like to use your question on my Email of the Week segment on my weekly podcast. I think it would have value to a number of my listeners."
So I'm pretty excited to hear what he'll come up with...

Doc from stogiefresh.com answered my "E-mail of the Week" question about the best ways to avoid damaging cigar bands while removing them from the cigar! His advice is excellent, highly detailed and can stand as a good reference for those of us collecting the bands and trying to preserve them.
I urge you to have a listen, and I think you'll find Doc's advice on this and other topics are right on the money.
The e-mail of the week is towards the end of the podcast, but the rest of the podcast is also pretty interesting. Doc reviews a Torano Exodus with a maduro wrapper, Roxo Ruby Tradicional Port, and also revisits the Oliva Serie V Lancero that's been sitting in his humidor for over a year.

I starting collecting mine but have no idea what to do with them... I have them in a box on a shelf...
Does anyone know what Bandwagon USA wants with everyone's bands? It doesn't say on their site, but was curious to see if anyone has the skinny on this.

Currently I have a giant brandy snifter FULL of bands. About a year ago, I had a FULL plastic grocery bag full of bands (In addition to the brandy snifter). One day I looked at it and said "Why in the f**k am I keeping this s**t". At that point, I cleaned up the patio table, smoked some cigars, drank some beers, and consolidated all of them. Right now I have one band for just about every different cigar I have smoked for the past 6 years. However, I do collect the 601 bands. At some point I will use them to get a few tshirts.
Clipped bands represent a tshirt. I think there are 250 bands there :cbig:

Update:
Doc from stogiefresh.com suggested that for stubborn bands, we should fill a small bowl with hot water from the tap (no need to heat it up any more than the hottest water that comes from your sink). Hold the band so that just the glued seam is slightly under water for a few minutes, then peel very gently or better yet use a sharp blade to gently tease the seam apart.
I had a stubborn Casa Magna Colorado band last night...and this technique worked like a charm. I've found these bands to be a real pain relative to others because they are big metallic bands with a "grabby" texture to them. But I'm very pleased with the result and will definitely use this technique on stubborn bands.
