Decided to spark up the new Jaime Garcia RE LE stick this afternoon. Got all setup and in my smoking chair. Clipped the end and took a nice big pre-light draw. Wham, pow, bam....PAINT! No mistaking it. Tasted like paint.

Went inside and asked the girl to do the same. She took a nice big pre-light draw and was immediately ... blaaaaaaaah. Said something isn't right. She said she tasted a strong chemical flavor. When I said paint she immediately said that is what it is.

I know the boxes these came in are painted an extremely bright glossy white. Guessing the smell leached in some. It happens and has happened to other manufacturers. Hoping that it eventually goes away as I put the stick away in hopes of being able to smoke it later.

Anyone else noticed this problem with this stick? :hanghead:

These have the Pele de oro in them too dont they? Thatd be a shame for some of the sticks to be compromised.

I smoked one yesterday that was right out of the box and I had no issues at all? Certainly had no paint or chemical tastes.

I was at the MF factory last week and smoked one in their lounge...

Jamie hung out and smoked with us!

This cigar did not taste like paint! It was phenomenal. It was a strong cigar, stronger than the MF LE but it was still balanced, not just strength over powering the flavor. I like it so much that I picked up a box. Give it another try

Got my box Thursday (and associated shwag) and torched one last night. It was tasty.

However, I did remove them from the box after reading this today.......

Based on the some of the responses let me clear the air real quick.

I'm a big fan of The Garcias and really, really enjoy the Jaime Garcia RE regular series. My post was in no way meant as a bash. In fact quite the opposite...it was posted with concern.

I know what I tasted and with another person tasting the same thing I don't think this is a figment of my imagination.

I just picked this single up yesterday from a local B&M that is closed today or I'd call up there and talk to the owner to see his thoughts as he has probably had one from the same box mine came from.

I've put the stick back into my wineador and plan on tomorrow morning dry tasting it again with a fresh pallet. However, there was no mistaking what I tasted. I hope this was a freak box or stick or two only.

I can't speak for everyone but I didnt' get the vibe you were bashing. You bought a special stick from a company you like, you have every right to be concerned if it tastes off. I'd for sure call the B&M up tomorrow just to let them know. I'm sure they'll respect your findings in this one stick, especially if you're a regular there. Hopefully it comes around for you!

I've had one and getting ready to light number two. No issues at all. And yes there is pelo in them. I'm guessing you just got a fluke. See if you can swap cause they are really good.

When I bought my Le Bijous I noticed the box had a strong paint odor so I took them out right away. No problems so far. Painted Boxes are very cool, but painting the inside is not worth the risk IMHO.

You'd think Jaime would have learned the paint lesson after the Drac!!! It's likely you just got unlucky (hope so, I have a box on the way).

It could be that heat has brought out the paint smell ... it's been crazy hot in many places of late, maybe te box got really hot in a delivery truck or something, and the paint smell came out.

In any event, store the cigars outside the boxes, and if possible leave the boxes in the sun for a few hours, then let them cool/dry for a few days inside. Then put them in an airtight container but NOT your humidor/bin/cooler.

After a day or two, see if that container smells like paint. If it does, repeat.

I didn't get a "bashing" vibe either. You have every right to be annoyed, and I for one appreciate the heads up! I'll post an update when I get mine.

Kawliga, where are those pics from? Miami? If that's Miami... they sure did a great job of remodeling! If that's Nica, that's a great addition too!
