For all you pumpkin beer lover's out there "PumKing" by Southern Tier is the one to get.

It literally tastes like you are eating a slice of pumpkin pie in a glass. The only thing missing for me was the whipped cream I usually put on my pumpkin pie.

To me, that's how Cottonwood tastes. It's the most spice filled pumpkin brew I've had so far. I'll look for this PumKing tomorrow to drink while watching the games :tiphat:

Count me in the didn't care for it category...

A little too heavy on the what I assumed to be nutmeg spice. That was last years batch though. Gimmie DFH Punk'in over this one easily.

Probably the best pumpkin beer I've had. Punkin by DFH is a close second. Third, I'd have to say Shipyard.

Regardless of whether it's becoming a bandwagon thing, I love pumpkin beers. The more we have brewing them and the more innovation we see, the better they'll get IMO.

I'm sitting on the fence when it comes to pumpkin beers. I just don't know if I like all the spices that are mixed in. I've really only had one (DFH Pumpkin) and have 3 more bottles to decide.

I don't like many of the pumpkin beers. They tend to be too spiced and with spices I don't like. I am not a fan of all spice or ginger in pumpkin pie or pumpkin beers. All they need is a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg with a healthy dose of pumpkin. I'm making my pumpkin beer soon for my house and I barely spice it, and add vanilla when I bottle (can barely detect it). I also wonder how much actual pumpkin these guys use in their beers. I know at home I use 60oz for my batches. If scaled up that's like 1000lbs for per brew at the brewery I do QA stuff.

Has anyone heard of a brewery advertising how much pumpkin they use in their beers?

Here's a nice little article on "most" of the pumpkin beers offered to date and FWIW Southern Tier PumKing got the top spot.

A review of 18 pumpkin beers
interesting read...thanks for posting. Perhaps I'll have to revisit the Pumpking again this year to see if I missed something. Admittedly I only drank one 22, so I guess like cigars, I shouldn't count it out after just one go at it.

As some others have said, Pumpkin beers are definitely becoming more popular, and more breweries are offering them now....but I don't think its a bad thing. I love the fall, and Halloween is easily a favorite Holiday for me and my family. Pumpkin beers is just another beverage to sip on that goes along w/ a fun Holiday. These definitely are not session beers though...one or two for me in a sitting at the very most.
