1998 Bolivar Petit Corona

Was gifted this from a great BOTL recently.

The wrapper is a rustic chocolatey colorado brown. *Nice sheen and no veins. *Aroma from the wrapper is hazelnut, cream, and a little expresso.

The construction on the cigar is nice. *Slightly box pressed. *Firm throughout the cigar. *The triple cap looks a little rough but no worries.

Cold draw off the foot is a little tight. *Cocoa, cream, caramel is what I get from the initial cold draw.

I little tough getting my punch through the triple cap bur victory prevails. *

Nice, firm draw. *More cocoa, cream and caramel with a touch of cedar.

Time to take this to the flame...

First third
Bold earthy flavours hit me first. *Cedar, cocoa and hazelnut follow suit. *Afterfinish is loong with earthy notes, leather, spice, cocoa and cedar coating my palate.

The ash is a dark and 'Dirty' grey. *Burn line is decent, considering the humidity tonight.

The strength is medium full. *Very nice, robust and bold flavours from this thing. *No harshness at all. *Pure flavour so far. *

Draw is awesome. *A hint of resistance and pure smoke billowing from both ends after every pull. *

Nice way to enjoy the lightning show here in Toronto tonight...

Second third

Chocolate now moves to the forefront. *Reminds me of that 80% cacao type of chocolate, intermixed with expresso, leather and earthy flavours.

Strike up the bang because here comes the cuban twang in spades. *BOW WOW CHICKA BOW WOW!!!!! *LOL

Burn line holding in nicely. *Smoke billowing through the air. *My neighbor a couple of doors down yells over to me that she loves the smell of whatever I am smoking. *LOL

A faint hint of floral notes are now in the afterfinish. *Interesting!

The evening air is cooling off nicely from the rain/lightning show that we just had. *Wonder if there is more to come. *A nice evening to enjoy a stogie.

Pairing this with a dram of Hirsch small batch bourbon that I got from my recent trip to the US. *Very nice combination. *Drinking it neat. *Might stick in an ice cube to see how it changes. *Maybe even some Coca Cola at the end to keep it interesting. *LOL

The strength has pulled back a bit. *A solid medium at best. *The flavours are just outstanding though. *I can see why MRN says that you can build a solid collection just by stocking up on Bolivar. *Such rich, decadent flavours that are all in sync.

Final third

Loving the richness of flavours in this cigar. *Just a joy to smoke. *No harshness whatsoever, just pure, unadulterated flavour.

Chocolate, expresso, cedar, earthy notes and leather take their turn to showcase their stuff. *No pick up in strength at all. *

Burn is great. *Smoke is billowing. *Flavours are long lasting. *Pairing well with the bourbon. *Might make a coffee to see how it pairs. *Life is good!!!!

Final Impressions: *This is a great after a good steak dinner kind of smoke. *Rich, luxurious flavours all working in harmony to deliver a fantastic smoking experience. *I know what I will be stocking up on in the near future.....

Nice review. BTW, a great cigar for NC smokers who are looking to expand their horizons to begin with. It was for me.
