My son turned 2 years old today. Wow!!! How time flies...

It seems like yesterday that I was holding him in my arms for the first time. My family was all there waiting patiently for him to arrive into the world.

For the weeks coming up to his arrival, I joked about how I wanted to call him 'Harvard' so he would potentially go to that University. I even went to Harvard during a trip to Boston and picked him up a toddler outfit for fun.

When it came down to it, we had 2 names to pick from: Jacob and Roy. Roy was the name of my wife's grandfather. Jacob was a name we liked. When he came out and opened his eyes for the first time, we said the name Jacob to him. He looked right at me and that was it. The name was decided.

We liked both names so much that we decided he would be Jacob Roy Sanchez. JR for short (no one calls him that though, at least not yet.... :)

I picked up a boatload of these when they came out so I could smoke one on his birthday every year as well as gift him some when he is of age if he wanted them. I won't smoke one from his stash. Only on his birthday. The ones that I get from trades or gifts will be smoked though... :)

This is the 2nd from the first box that I opened. Let's see how it is coming along.

The wrapper is still oily and sleek, despite being in a slumber state for 2 years. It has a nice, deep, chocolate brown maduro wrapper that is fairly smooth to the touch. Not as toothy as I remember.

The aromas from the wrapper: barnyard, chocolate, cream and a hint of cinnamon and a touch of earthiness. Such a nice fragrance....

The foot of the cigar is nicely packed. A couple of hollow spots but should be no problems here...

The squeeze test assures me that things will go well. Very firm throughout the cigar with little give.
The triple cap on the cigar is perfect. Almost looks like a marble head like on a Conde 109. A nice surface for my punch. Should be easy peasy...

The cold draw reveals earthy goodness, combined with cream, chocolate, a hint of spice.

Time to take this to the flame....

First Third
This cigar has a nice temperament, almost playful. Sounds like my son. He is such a happy kid. Full of life, curiosity and joy. He really is an amazing little guy. He is very attentive. He observes everything. He loves to play and has a great personality. One of my favorite things to do is to watch him and my daughter play. The laughter fills the room and they have so much fun together. A father's pride wells up in me every time I get to see them together.

The flavours from the cigar are chocolate, cream, a hint of earthiness, a good representation of cuban twang and a touch of cinnamon. No one flavour outperforming another. This is a unified effort.

Strength is medium at this point. A nice way to spend a reflective evening and to be thankful how lucky I am to have him in our lives.

The ash is a deep 'Dirty' grey with little white dots. Lucky, lucky!!!!! Better play the Lotto. LOL

The aroma of the cigar is.... well delicious.

The draw is perfect. Lots of smoke production and the draw is easy peasy.

The flavours surround and envelop my palate like a blanket. Gentle, warming, comforting....

Earth, cedar, cream and chocolate all stick around and linger on my palate for a while. For some reason, it reminds me of the feeling of when you come home to see your kids and they run over to give you a big hug....

Second Third
One of the things that I am so happy that we did as he was an infant was try to have as much routine in his life as possible. Naps and meals at roughly the same time, bath time and a routine for getting ready for for bed. I think this has really helped him be well rested so he can enjoy life to the fullest.

I mentioned that he is very observant. One of the things that we made sure that we did every day was watch 'Baby Signing Time' with him for 15 minutes and then half an hour. Giving him the tools so that he could communicate is priceless. Seeing him sign 'more' or 'thank you' or 'eat' has really helped us understand what he needs and gives him the confidence that he can communicate. I highly recommend that if you have a new baby on the way, pick up 'Baby Signing Time.' You won't regret it.

I remember the first time that he spoke and said DaDa. Tears welled up and I held him forever....

He now can use my iPad. He goes through the screens and apps better than I can I think. :)

He has such a good demeanour. He says thank you to everyone and remembers everything. You can't tell him that he can have a treat and hope that he forgets. He has the memory of an elephant. LOL

The cigar is smoking brilliantly right now. The flavours are so lush and prominent. It is satisfying, like how you feel after a fantastic meal.

Nice assortment of bitter chocolate, cream, earthiness and cuban twang continue to keep my attention. Interestingly enough, there is an absence of sweetness in this cigar. Not a bad thing IMHO.

The strength continues to move at a medium bodied pace. It's all about the flavour tonight baby....

The burn line is fairly straight. Nothing to really worry about.

The after finish is long and expansive, giving me time to reflect and enjoy the walk down memory lane....

Final Third
What impresses me the most about my son is that he is so welcoming and full of life. My daughter and him are like two peas in a pod. Both are very happy people. The world needs more happy people and I am glad that they have such a positive outlook on life.

I remember his first steps. It really wasn't walk a few steps and then fall. he was more like he literally decided to walk one day and that was it. :)

He is a very careful, particular little guy though. Everything is calculated. He takes his time going down the stairs, holds onto the rail, checks his footing and then goes down the step. Very routine oriented.

All his cars have to be put away in his car case before he can go to bed. He always chooses two cars to bring up and put on his bedside table. He has 3 blankets that his grandmother made for his that he calls 'Peach.' I love watching his eyes light up when he sees them and yells "PEACH!!!!' He grabs one, snuggles it and the look of comfort on his face is priceless.

He is now old enough to walk TV for a little bit with me. I truly enjoy snuggling with him on the couch or in bed, watching a show on treehouse, whether it be Dora the Explorer to Beeno and Toopy. I really don't care. I am just relishing the feeling of cuddling with him and spending 'Daddy' time with him.

The cigar continues to deliver in spades. Rich, decadent flavours that are more refined than powerful.

The strength continues to be an even keel medium body. Wouldn't want it any other way.

A slight change in flavour profile. The earthiness has moved to the forefront but chocolate, cream and cuban twang as just right behind.

The after finish continues to keep me warm as I think about things to come. Potty training, first day of pre school, watching him further develop his communication and social skills. I am sure that life will continue to be filled with some great memories.

Final Impressions
This cigar is coming along nicely. I really enjoyed the flavours and the strength is perfect for the profile. The Canonazo vitola is a great size for this marca. I hope that these become regular production one day as the Cohiba Siglo VI is one of my favorite cigars.

The only thing that surprised me with the 2010 Montecristo Grand Edmundo is the absence of sweetness. Much more deeper, yet refined flavours than I expected, based on its age. It really speaks to the quality of tobacco that Cuba is producing right now as well as the blending and rolling techniques being used. We are in a renaissance period for Havanas...

Be sure to pick up a few boxes if you haven't done so, as they are starting to get hard to come by. These will be gems in your humidor for years to come.

Happy Birthday, son. Daddy loves you.....

Well done. Smoke one when they first came out and was not that impressed. Smoke another two weeks ago and was blown away. I agree these will be gems down the road working and stock piling a bunch.
