I don't know if this should be under reviews or not so if the mods feel the need to move it feel free!

Just finished a 5 Vegas Gold Maduro that i "accidentally" bought a box of on a mmao deal on a certain online site. (long story short, too much beer and bored. lol) Got em for two bucks a piece thought helluva deal!

First off i can't wait more than a week to light one up and had terrible construction issues. Tunneling, going out, uneven burn, etc,

Too spicy for my taste but that's subjective.

Let a few months go by and had a couple more...same thing.

Let a few more months go by and just finished one and i have to say wow these have changed! The spicyness has died down greatly and the flavors are pleasant and no more tunneling! The burn is still a little wonky but i've found that a long slow purge straightens almost any burn issues out with any cigar. I think i'll smoke my other two and put the last ten to rest for a couple years.

Which leads into my questions... Has anyone tried these and had the same experience?...was the box pressed vitola called "The Brick".
Also does anyone else think that cigars age has more to do with the flavor than anything? IE good tobacco in a cigar aged for a year after rolled and sold for ten dollars each is no different than a cigar made with good tobacco that after three months aging is sold for 4 dollars each after you age it for a year yourself? Is it worth the savings to age em yourself? Finally does anyone or has anyone tried the long slow purge to straighten out an uneven burn? Works great for me!

The burn issues and harshness were probably due to the cigars not being kept properly at the vendor. Time in your humi probably stabilized them and viola they taste and burn better. I like the gold maduro... It's a nice mellow smoke. A bit of age helps them a lot too, so after a year or so I think you'll enjoy them even more.

Good point, Stockton. Stuff from CI (and cigar.com) is almost always pretty wet on arrival. I don't smoke anything OTT from them. 3 weeks min - usually more.

This line of cigars was pretty big news when they came out and then they fizzled within a few months...a lot of it had to do with what you tried. These were not all that good ROTT and I think they were just rushed into the marketplace too quickly. I bought a 5 pack when they came out and did my own experiment...try one within 30 days to get a standard and then try one every 3 months afterwards. They hit their apex after a good amount of resting...after 6 months at least and they don't get any better after a year. The key to enjoying any cigar is your experience with them after a certain amount of resting time and then knowing when they are at their best. This only holds true for the individual as it's their taste so we use our own experience to tell ourselves...when it's the best.

I havent done Cigary's test.. but I think his analysis is likely spot on..

I got a box of the gold maduros about 2 months ago.. smoked one within a couple of days of receiving them.. it wasnt terrible.. but was pretty uninspiring..

I smoked a couple more of them this past weekend.. and actually thought they were pretty good (especially for the price).. Im guessing in another couple of months they will get even better.. but doubt they will make a whole lot of progress after that.. (I guess we'll know in a few more months! :) )...
