To tell ya the truth I really had a harm time following what you were trying to say. My understanding is that you feel like you should be doing something else with your life but you don't know when, where or how?

Oh, if only it were that easy...I have this problem...This curse...That my mind is always set on a couple years down the road...What's going to happen then, what will I be doing, will the family be ok, will I have a career, yada-yada..It's not so much that I am not happy with what I have, and where I am now, it's just that I'm worried about where I am going, and how my family is going to be through that time..Am I making any sense here?

Hate to be all confucious-y and such, but if you always keep your eyes a mile up the road, you are bound to trip on something right under your nose.

Pay attention to the now, it's now that matters. Obviously plan for the future, but don't let it consume you. Otherwise you'll miss out on everything that's happening now and you'll regret it later in life.

Focus on the Now, the later will work it's way through.

Oh, and you are right, get used to not sleeping very well.......

As far as the need to focus on the here and now, I understand that, and I do, as best I can..However, my mind just seems continually float to the what thens, how do I get there kinda things..

I've thought that Todd, but I've BTDT before, and this doesn't feel the same, though I'm not a professional so I could be wrong...I talked to the resident brain shrinker here, and he seemed perfectly satisfied to blame it all on PTSD, which, also is not the case...

Perfect sense.
You are actually doing you and your family a diservice by not focusing on TODAY.
Tomorrow is never guranteed.
Totally agree with this statement Andrew

I also agree that you sound slightly depressed bro.

I get into little "funks" sometimes where I focus on the "what ifs" of the future and how to prevent them or to achieve them - sometimes it's a bit overwhelming indeed.

I try to focus on spending time with the wife doing some QUALITY time and doing some of the things I enjoy NOW. It seems to work for me.

Try volunteering for a youth organization, it may be right up your alley bro

I think you have some introspective blues my friend. It's a corporial thing that us humans must have some tangible proof of our being here.

I like to think that no matter where you go, no matter what your station in life is, you will always have that cyclical bout of exestential crisis. It's not bad unless you succumb to it.

Take from an old dude. Looking to the future doesn't bring it any faster or slower. A group that helped me a lot once told me that speculating and worrying about the future was the biggest waste of my time and life possible because it never ever changed the outcome.

One day at a time saved my life and made life manageable. You sound like a well centered good guy that cares. The guys are right. Focus on today and tomorrow takes care of itself.
