Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Van from NY. I am somewhat of a blank canvas when it comes to cigars. I've had the occasional cigar on the golf course, but have been wanting to learn more about them. I know I've had Gurkha's and Romeo y Julieta's but couldn't tell you the exact kind.

My question is what are good cigars to start out with?
I know I've had cigars between 40 and 44. And more of a Mild to Medium strength. I heard this was the place for Cigar tips and advice.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard from a fellow NYer. You can try some samplers from either Cigar International or one of the other online vendors...it's a good place to start. Even better though, go to your local cigar store and tell the manager that you're new and what you you've smoked so far. Ask him for his recommendations and branch out from there. But here's some recommendations to try: Ashton Classic, Perdomo Lot 23, Rocky Patel 7 year, Curvee Blue label, Oliva G and Conneticut Reserve, RyJ, Padron...those are a good place to start.

You can also go into the BOTL Chat Room and tell people what you haven't tried yet, right guys? :stretchgr

haha welcome bro, samplers are your best friend here just dont do like me when i started smoking(not to very long ago) and be like ohh look i can get 1000 gurkhas for like 30 bucks haha i still have mad gurkhas sitting around. but just smoke everything you can and make sure to keep notes, write stuff down cause you wont be able to remember it in your brain housing group =-). as far as recomendations i mabye would try

5 vegas gold, nice light and creamy
Ave Maria, one of my recent favorites nice smooth taste almost with a hint of apricot
Acid Kuba Kuba, hey im not a fan but it is one of the tastier infused
Gurkha sherpa and or park avanue, nice mild smokes with pretty good taste
Man O War virtue, awesome smoke little more body then the regular MOW really tastey

If CI still has the samplers by taste grab a mild one its got 2 each a a few nice mild smokes, not a bad place to start.

again welcome and let me know if my very limited range of knowledge can be of any use

Welcome aboard Van, glad to have you here . Like GoingPostal said...try everything you can, it's the only way to find out what you like and don't like. Ask your local B&M employees, they can help. Some of the cigars I enjoyed when I was first starting were Perdomo Lot 23 Maduro (but try the Natural and Connecticut also), Padron x000 (still enjoy the crap out of these), Nub Maduro & Habano, Arturo Fuente Short Story, CAO Gold Maduro, CAO Brazilia (still like 'em, but they've discontinued my favorite size...boo), CAO America. Some other's I'd recommend would be Casa Magna and anything Tatuaje (the Red or new White labels might be the place to start, but the Brown are the cream of the crop). Happy smoking!

Welcome from Cali, I think you'll enjoy your stay here.

I only skimmed the responses so hopefully I'm not repeating anyone.
Go sign up for the noobie sampler. If you're like me it's a little weird being the new kid on the block and saying hey come play with me. But the guys here will take really good care of ya, you'll get to try some stuff you probably wouldn't otherwise pick out for your self right now.

What 'gars have you had so far that you liked?

Cheers :ccool:

Thanks Fellas for the warm welcome. I appreciate all the help. I'll be making a trip to the local B&M soon and using all of your recommendations. I hope to learn a lot from BOTL.
