I need some help in figuring out what to buy and also would like to hear about what everyone thinks about Johnny O's "sick period".

I've dabbled in cubans for the last 8 months or so and now I'm thinking about picking up a bundle or sampler of Johnny-O's. I've been thinking about buying Johnny O's for awhile now but because of the recent customs issues people have been talking about, I decided I'll be buying my cigars from inside the USA for few months.

My situation is that being a college student I don't really have the space or ability to buy large amounts of cigars just for aging. I hear that Johnny O's are best either ROTT or after their "sick period", which I've read seems to last 1-3 years for these cigars. The issue is that I expect that I would go through a bundle in about 6-8 months considering that I only smoke once or twice a week and I like to dabble in a bit of everything in my humidor. Probably about half of the cigars I go through are smoked by me and the other half gets smoked by people smoking with me.

What have your experiences been as far as the Johnny O's and "sick periods"? I'm thinking about posting WTB (not here of course but on sites that allow them) for aged Johnny O's just because I'm afraid that if I bought some fresh, I'd be sharing and smoking a new bundle during the worst phase of the cigar.

c/p of fairly recent post by Johnny on another forum:

"Just wanted to clarify something for those of you not familiar with my cigars. Most of them are smokeable immediately and 1-2 months after being rolled. Some might make it to three months. After that they need a nap up to a years time before they come around again. I get a feeling the "nays" are probably because the BOTL smoking it was not aware of the age on it. If you look at the comments on cigars that have passed the year mark, they are usually positive. So if you are not sure on the age of the cigar, lay it down for a year you might be surprised. John"

correct information. not sure how much luck you'll have getting aged jo's but could be worth a shot. otherwise, get a bundle and start smoking. when you get to a point where they aren't doing it for you, put them away. you may only have a few left!

Yeah I figured it might be a hard to find one that someone wants to sell with age on it. I may just have to buy a fresh bundle and go from there. Btw, I go to school in OK but I'm actually from an area on the south side of the KC metro as well. Is your wishlist/favorites list current?:chat:

Great c/p Dave. In reality that comment will work for damn near any cigar. Some need more sleep time, others do not. Some people want a fresh in your face cigar, others want 5+ years for a more mellow and refined profile.

I thought we had too but couldn't find a PM conversation so it must have been on chat. Since you won't list a wish list on your profile, I guess I'll just have to do some recon :ninja:

I know I am late to this party, but here is the lowdown on Wishlists and Faves when it comes to Bob.

When Bob reaches out, he pretty much either decimates a WL, redefines it, or changes one's whole paradigm.
