After all the rain we've had in northern CA over the past 5 months, the pollen season is in HIGH gear. My allergies (grass / tree pollen) were so bad that I barely got any sleep Monday night + I had to call in sick on Tuesday. This was my worst episode in about 7 years.

I normally get relief from daily Claritin tablets during heavy pollen seasons, but this year they were not working at all. I switched to Zyrtec and can finally breathe and do not have the constant runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, etc.

I finally was able to enjoy a nice smoke this evening after more than a week without.

That sucks bro, and I feel for you! I have chronic sinusitis myself.

1) NeliMed. I use the bottle, and do it every day. It REALLY helps with sinus congestion.
2) Breathe Right Strips. 1/2 the time these are enough to get my to sleep. Opens the airways just enough.
3) Vics Inhalor. It's a little chapstick-sized nasal inhaler, mostly just menthol, but it helps.

Most importantly, do NOT get hooked on Afrin. It's easy to do, but it REALLY sucks. Getting "off" Afrin is worse than the allergies themselves.

Good luck, bro!

Yes, I know full well about nasal sprays. They have a nasty rebound effect on me and just compound the problems. I now only use saline solution to dry my sinuses along with an occasional Sudafed (the original stuff that you now need to sign for due to the meth-heads).

I hear you Tedski... As soon as I get stir crazy from all the rain and cold, the rain clears and the allergies begin! Besides all of the above recommendations I have found some relief from a netty pot. Rinse the sinuses out and start fresh.

I saw an allergy Doc when I was very young (1960s) and my allergies were much worse. Went through 2+ years of weekly shots. Now I just have the occasional bout of seasonal problems that are usually moderated with OTC drugs. I can live with it as long as the allergy meds work.

My whole family has allergies so I can relate as well. We use the best airfilters in our home as well as air purifiers. If the pollen get really bad we stay inside as much as possible. Hope your feeling alot better bro!!!

Tedski-

When it gets really bad for me I take Sudafed. It's the max strength nasal decongestant (really small red pills) and they dry me right up. Only thing it won't help is the itchy eyes. When it gets that bad I use a cold compress to reduce discomfort.
I feel for you Bro - and know full well that living in New England - I'll be sharing your misery in a few short weeks.

Good Luck-
