My son graduated HS this past weekend and we've scheduled his party for next Saturday the 10th at my house. We're expecting close to 100 guests so I decided that rather than rent a tent I'd buy one that can accommodate most of them. I found a decent canopy setup that will provide cover over 480 sq. feet at a decent price but delivery was a concern. Standard free ship of 5-7 days estimated delivery between the 8th and the 9th, OK that's too close for comfort. There was a trial offer for something called Amazon Prime which would give me free 2 Day shipping, basically after the trial is over I have the option of keeping it for a recurring $79 annual charge. Free 2 day shipping on all applicable purchases, $3.99 overnight. Needless to say that I signed up and ordered the canopy. My delivery time now was between the 7th and the 8th. Huh?

I called customer service, actually I had them call me (how cool is that) and asked how something ordered on the 30th using 2 day shipping can take 7 days to receive. She gave me some bizarre math explanation and told me she'd upgrade the order to overnight and waive the $3.99 fee. I thanked her and waited for my email confirmation which when received gave me my new date.

According to Amazon with overnight shipping I should receive my delivery no later than the 7th. I'm so confused. :scratchhe

Shipping time obviously does not include handling time, I assume larger items take a bit more work to package up and get moving.

As for prime, go to your account settings, manage prime, and then turn off the auto upgrade to prevent them from charging you if you forget about it.

I love amazon and do most of my shopping there, cant beat the prices and service most of the time.

Yes! Do this before you forget because they will bill you! I found out the hard way :argh:

Also, with an irregular sized item like that it cannot travel on the conveyor belts. They have to take them off and transport them to the truck by hand. It still shouldn't take almost a week to get your overnight order.

Yeah, Amazon is awesome, I had them ship directly to Mexico with no problems at all once. Unbelievable customer service. I typed in my phone number and the very instant I clicked "call me" the phone rang! I should have asked if I'd be backcharged shipping if I should choose to opt out after the trial is over.

I opt out seconds after my trial starts and still have free 2 day shipping for the rest of the month.

Yup, even if you opt out, you still get the free trial period for however long it is.
