Hey Sermed, is it troublesome making deposits with USAA? Do you have to mail in deposits?
The reason I ask is that we are currently with Wachovia and we are likely moving out of their service are very soon and we are currently USAA members.
Don't walk, but run to USAA. I hate banks, but these guys have exceeded my expectations.
Deposits can be done a few ways:
1. Keep a local bank account (with free checking). This is good if you deposit a lot of cash. (lots of banks will give a free checking with direct deposit). Before I completely switched, I direct deposited my paycheck to BofA and as soon as it appeared it was instantly transfered to USAA.
Make a deposit, and use the USAA website to transfer the cash.
This is faster than you think because unlike most banks, they don't wait for the transfer to clear (2-3 days), USAA makes the new balance fully available to you instantly. The only slow step is how long your local bank makes your deposit available.
2. If you deposit mostly checks:
USAA gives you as many pre-paid deposit envelopes as you want. Just drop it in the mail.
Something new that just came out is free UPS OVERNIGHT envelopes.
Just drop off your deposit at a UPS store or designated UPS box and it will be in your account the next day!
Make the switch (boy I wish USAA paid me a commision).
ATM rebates (up to $15 per account, not just per card). Free checks for life, no minimums and their debit card gives .5% cash back on non-pin based transactions (I never use a debit card though).
EDIT: The atm rebates make it so I can always get cash without worrying about a fee. Ever try and get cash at a Vegas casino? The atm fees range from $4-$6 . Didn't matter to me since I got refunded at the end of the statement.
