I received a box of these Diamond Crown maddy #4 at Christmas and smoked a few, liking but not loving them.
Over the last six months, I've tried a lot of new-to-me cigars. Last night I decided to get back to these DC and see where my palate was at with them.
What a delight. Smoked it late-night here in LA, warm and calm. Shared with the girlfriend, who paired it with a couple of glasses of Pinot. About halfway through, not being a drinker myself, I paired it with the Manhattan Special Sarsparilla ("At's a good one!") from Galco's soda shop in Highland Park.
GF reported tasting maple syrup and toasted almonds. I started off with a strong cocoa, a high generic sweetness on the lips, and a hint of chlorine or Ammonia that went away. Later we got charred wood, and the creamy nuttiness and sweetness stuck around til the final third. Neither of us detected any hint of pepper or spice from this smooth-as-silk stick. We both remarked about the pleasantness of its pungent room note.
It's really tremendous. The GF, who has smoked quite a few cigars with me by now including several CCs, Opus, her beloved Bait Fish and La Riqueza robusto, and others, declared this DC to be *maybe* her favorite cigar yet.
All in all, one hell of a nice couple of hours.
