This is probably common knowledge, but its new to me! (guess I'm always behind the time with tech and gadgets) Found an app for free internet access for a computer by using the internet on your phone. Free for all websites and one-time fee for https websites with 15 day free full-access trial. No jailbreaking necessary. Just wanted to throw it out there and see what the techies think about it? App is pdanet.

It's a great app. You will need to upgrade it in order to use it after the 15 day trial in order to log-in to any secure sites. It is well work the money and the speed was good enough for my buddy to play online games one his computer just using my phone for the internet. Plus if you pay the one time fee for the app, you don't need to pay the monthly charge your provider would usually charge.

Yeah, I've considered dropping my internet and just using this, but I probably won't do that. I have slow internet as it is, so I don't image it would be much worse. I used it in the hospital when my daughter was born this weekend. My only issue is that sometimes it will "stall", and I read some reviews expressing this concern as well.

I just use MyFi from the Cydia JB app store. Works flawlessly as a wifi hotspot. Streamed Netflix the other day on it, worked awesome.

Rooting on android is the way to go. It allows you to get a free Wifi tether so you don't have to worry about upgrading.

I will mention however that there is usually around a five gigabyte cap on data usage per month before they start to throttle your speeds. (Even on unlimited plans.)
